$30 a month, put in the bank buys you a new set of tires mounted and balanced every 36 months. What is the better value?
I have tried to make that point before that OnStar is missing some kind of "per use" plan. I would not mind paying, say, $0.50 for remote starting my car with the phone. I like the feature but I would probably use it 4 times a year. Would I pay $20/month to have it and to be able to use it 100 times a day? No. Same for other telematics services.

I understand that GM has to pay certain monthly amounts just to maintain the connectivity with the car, but I am sure they negotiate decent deal with the operators.

It reminds me of my cable provider. I get 100's of channels most of which are trash in my mind. Yet when I try to argue the point it falls on deaf ears. When you use the word "socialism" in America, people freak out. However, isn't what the cable provider is doing socialist? They are subsidizing channels that wouldn't otherwise make it with the funds of people who won't even watch it.

Same with OnStar... they won't charge a per-use fee because they would claim that they can't stay in business using that model. So what? I'm not paying for crap I rarely, if ever, use. I would, however, consider a per use fee.

I love onstar, I keep renewing my directions & connections package because I always get lost, it gives me the peace of mind and confidence that no matter where I'm at, I just push the button and I can get to where I want to go quickly and easily. I am up for renewal next month as well and called the haggle, threatened to cancel and the best they would offer me was $269 and it's regular $299. Seems like a rip off to me and not much of a deal. Not sure what I'm going to do. Anyone else get a better rate? I recall last year I called and I paid for the safe and sound package and they upgraded me to directions/connections for free.

I quit ON* a while back due to the cost. I got an email from them this week offering me 3 months of D&C plus 60 minutes of calling for $45.00. If I could get it year round for that amount I might consider it. Why do you always have to walk away in order to get a reasonable price?

Because there are stupid people all over the place that pay full price and OnStar knows that.

That's capitalism at it's finest. Charge what the market is willing to pay.

Thanx to you post I just got the same deal, $14.95 for six months.
She said when I get close to the end of the six months to give them a call back and they should able to do a repeat. Works for me.

I got a call and a nice offer from an OnStar Rep. I'll decide what to do soon.

That warning is better than keyless in my 2014 Mercedes. The control was in the car and I locked the car using the sensor in door handle. Luckily, I had the MB App to let me unlock the car via my phone.

My Onstar cost (safe & sound) is $14.95 per month. I usually buy 30 minutes when necessary. Hardly ever use the system. It's mainly for the wife.
