You actually own/use one, or just like the looks of it?

They've come down in price a little already, but the overall reviews aren't quite where I'd like to see them for something I'm relying on to be pretty long-term reliable and trouble-free.

Believe me, I'm interested. . . just not quite ready to pull the trigger on one.

Besides, I don't want to have to actively operate the fob (point it at the door and press a button) as that one requires. That requires me to fish the fob out of my pocket (which my SRX does not). Worse, it requires my wife to dig her keyring out of the bottom of her purse (and I've already heard enough about *that*) if she happens to be the one who was just driving our wonderful handsfree SRX locks and ignition. Yeah, the Simplicikey house lock has a keypad too. . . but now I've already satisfied the wife with a keypad for a lot less money.

You're free to not like what you don't like, and I said I myself would like to see some options for time length for the autolock. Me, if I haven't been inside yet and dropped the keys off on the counter (a strong habit with me), I don't find it a hassle to lay my thumb on the button again to get the car door to unlock. Clearly you don't agree.

I leave the fob in my pocket at all times. When I take it out is only to change clothes or put it in the pocket of the pants I'll be wearing the next day. I want real hands free, also having to reach under the license plate overhang to open rear hatch is a pain as well. I kinda like how Ford has implemented a use of the foot or leg to open the rear hatch.

I still get startled with the one beep it does when my car auto locks. I know it is going to happen but for some reason it still startles me from time to time. I have my key fob in a carabiner clip that I clip to one of my belt loops (I typically have a belt loop on most everything I wear) this way it is with me and not left in the car. I got in the habit of using a carabiner clip with riding my motorcycle as it was easier to gas up with my keys clipped to a belt loop if i had gloves on then trying to dig them out of a pocket so I just carry my key fob that way. The key fob is the only thing on the clip so it is not like I have a load of keys hanging from my belt loop. :-) ~Tina~
I am the only driver and have my doors set to auto lock. I HAVE disabled the horn confirmation when the doors lock. You might try that if you'd prefer not to hear the beeping. The lights still flash to confirm locking.

I own one. I initially thought the fob wouldn't serve a purpose but I found I can use it from in the car as I park then leave it in the car. The ability to set unique codes and date/time for each is very useful for me. I read somewhere they are coming out with an internet interface soon.

Re: Reason for horn beeping 3 times?

Now if Cadillac would partner with one of these companies so that my SRX keyfob would work the same way with a house lock. . . now we're talking.

The Kwikset Kevo is more like what I have in mind, and can use either its own fob or you can program your smartphone to be the keyfob. The reviews, however, are decidedly mixed. It's also not supporting Android yet, which Kwikset blames on weak Android Bluetooth LE support (come to think of it, I seem to recall hearing the CUE team has complained about Bluetooth support in current Android as well). But that's only if you want to use your phone as the key, rather than the fob.

Like I said, I think I'll wait a bit for the tech to mature and prices to get a bit better (tho the Kevo is already around $220, and the previous time I looked it was around $300 --originally it was $460). For now the keypad version lock I installed on the door from the garage to the house after getting our SRX keeps my keys comfortably in my pocket and my wife's keys buried at the bottom of her purse, and that is good enough for now.

Thanks, but I prefer to lock the doors by pressing the button on the door handle, so I have the auto locking disabled. I have always locked the doors when the car is parked, with the exception of when it is in my garage. I can see where this option would be handy for owner's that occasionally forget to lock their cars.

If you have the automatic unlock set, the door will unlock when you pull the handle when you have the key fob. If the passenger opens the door first with his or her key fob, the doors will not lock as long as that key fob is in the vehicle. If the key fob which opened the door leaves the car, the doors will lock even if the other key fob is still in the vehicle. Then the alarm will set. This will turn off the inside power door lock. The person left inside would have to break security to open the door with the door handle. The key fob that person has would be disabled until the other key fob returns to the car. This prevents someone from opening the car and driving away with a key fob left in the vehicle.
