    Replace/repair usb port - 2010 SRX

We just bought a 2010 SRX and it has the USB and AUX ports in the center console. The USB port looks like the previous owner somehow damaged it, the copper prongs are all sticking out and we
are not able to insert our USB stick. Is there a way that we can repair this or is this something that we will have to go to a dealer to have taken care of? Thanks for any info!

It depends on how mechanically inclined you are. Replacing the USB port itself should be a relatively simple process. However, sometimes gaining access to a simple repair is a chore. Contact your local dealer and get an estimate. They should be able to give you a general idea of the cost. Based on their estimate, you can decide if it's worth tackling yourself. Of course, I'm assuming you're out of warranty.

I can tell you one thing. It's definitely worthwhile getting this fixed. My primary (auto) music collection is on the flash drive below. Once plugged in, it only protrudes out from the port about 1/4 inch. This thing is REALLY tiny! Just look at the pic below. I never have to fumble around with cords, cell phones/iPods, Bluetooth streaming (which my car won't do anyway), etc. I just plug it in and it stays there. The only time I remove it is to load new music or when my car goes in for service. Creating "Playlists" is as simple as placing your music into folders on the drive itself. If it ever gets lost or stolen, I have all of the music backed up on my computer. I simply buy a new one and copy the music back onto it. I would not use a conventional thumbdrive in this USB port. Due to its location, it will be prone to bending/breaking. You need a "low profile" flash drive.

Congrats on the 2010!! As far as the repair goes, I agree with Sube. Replacing a USB port is very easy. Getting to the USB port 'could' be a nightmare. Is there any way you would be willing and able to take a close up photo of the port? It could be a very easy fix... but then again it might not be.
