2010 SRX Infotainment system -trouble with DVD restarting, and remote doesnt work

Hi there, I just purchased an 2010 SRX, off of the original owner who had purchased it from the dealer. He never used the DVD system, as he didnt have little kids, so he assumed it worked fine. Im having major problems getting anything to work. Im not sure if its me the operator, or if its the system itself. The problems Im having are as follows :
    1) I cant seem to "record" my ipod to the HDD when plugged in by USB. No menu comes up, nothing happens. Ive tried to follow the manual, but nada.
    2) Is there a way to load all your contacts into the phone system so you can use hands free? I have already paired my phone, but the voice commands dont seem to do anything. Id like to be able to just pair the phone, and say "Call home"
    3) ***This is whats causing me most grief with an impatient 3 yr old in the back seat. Everytime we turn off the car and get back in, the DVD starts all over from the beginning. It has to go through all the ads, movie previews etc and then by the time it actually starts we usually reach our destination driving around town doing errands. I have found the skip, or forward buttons to be extremely slow. Also, is there a way to turn the power and Source buttons on for the RSE by the remote or on front panel? Actually my remote doesnt even seem to work, even with new batteries. Its a pain having to push that power button on the back panel everytime we get in the car. Especially if I forget and am already driving, its impossible to see, and completely unsafe while driving. Any help with these things would be greatly appreciated. My husband says just take it to the dealership, but I want to know first if its the operator or the system itself. Thanks!!

CCC will most likely reply with "If you would like help in working with your dealership, PM us." They cannot offer any sort of troubleshooting or maintenance advice. Let's move this up to the active SRX forum where there are a slew of involved members ........ Thanks for joining CF - Welcome Aboard !!!

Welcome to the Cadillac forum, newgirl. I am sorry for the concerns you are experiencing with your vehicle Infotainment and DVD system. I am not a technician and cannot offer any technical advice. We rely on our dealerships for their technical expertise and as our eyes and ears in the field. We are here to assist the best we can and get you in contact with the appropriate team to further address your vehicle issues. I am providing the phone number for our Infotainment center. They can be reached by phone at 855-478-7767. As far as your malfunctioning DVD unit, this is something I recommend a technician at a dealer to diagnose. If you do not get the answers you are looking for on this forum, and are considering working with a dealer, we can assist throughout that process. Contact us via private message or by email at socialmedia@gm.com.

    Sincerely,

Re: 2010 SRX Infotainment system -trouble with DVD restarting, and remote doesnt work

Hello and congrats on your SRX!

I can't help with items 2 or 3, but for item #1, you can't load the iPod to the SRX hard disk. From a USB stick, yes, but not from an iPod. Wish I knew why!

Good luck, and the only suggestion I have as far as the remote control for the RSE goes - have you tried using the remote from the back seat? In addition to the '13 SRX, we also have an '08 Acadia, and the remote control only works from the 2nd and 3rd rows. It needs line-of-sight to the IR receiver, which is integrated into the flip-down LCD screen... and only faces the rear seats.

Sounds silly, took me a while to figure out, but I have to ask my (now 6-year-old) son to start his own DVD.

Thank you so much for even the little bit of knowledge. My daughter is soon to be 4, so regardless I may have to train her on the DVD remote.Im just a little shocked at how, "un"user , or not parent friendly the RSE seems to be so far. Like i mentioned before, hopefully it's just me as the user.

No, the Rear Seat Entertainment is for the Rear Seat Passengers. The SRX's target group is not families with young kids, so the RSE was not built to be user friendly with young families.
It is also a safety precaution, keeping the driver from being distracted with back seat entertainment, keeping the driver's focus on the road in order not to have an accident. No it doesn't have an allowance for a passenger, which could create a loophole for the driver to manipulate, in turn defeating the whole point of keeping the driver from being distracted.

I am having the same problem with the DVD player. My 2 year old is being a trooper but it is quite annoying for all of us. Any resolution on this issue? We have taken ours to the local dealership three times and still nothing.
