2013 SRX - Should I be able to charge my cell phone when engine is off?

Hello. I have had my brand new SRX performance edition for just a week.
It surprises me that when plugged into any of the round lighter-looking holes, my cell phone will stop charging when the engine is turned off.
Is that true for all of you or is there an issue with my vehicle?

Other than that, I am loving it!

The outlet in the rear cargo outlet is "hot" at all times. The others are only hot when the ignition is on. Since you seem to be a female I will not use the popular acronym about an activity with the SRXs manual. BTW, congrats on your purchase and enjoy!

Owner's Manual. Some will respond to questions on these forums with a curt "Read the manual". Sometimes they will add an expletive in front of manual, for emphasis. Glad you got a fast and friendly answer.

Some vehicles can be switched to hot all the time for the car charger outlet. This is done in the fuse box, move the fuse over one slot and you have constant power. I don't remember reading this in the manual for the SRX, sadly.

    Hello Linda B,

Congratulations on your new SRX! ‘12CTSman was correct in regards to the outlets. I found the information he was referencing in chapter 5, page 8 in the owner’s manual. Glad to hear that you are loving your vehicle! Please feel free to reach out to us via private message if you have any questions or concerns with your SRX. Thank you very much for your time.

Where in the rear cargo area is the power outlet located?

    Power Outlets

The accessory power outlets can beused to plug in electrical equipment, such as a cell phone or MP3 player. The vehicle may have up to five accessory power outlets. The accessory power outlets are:

    .

Below the climate control system inside the front storage bin.

    .

    Inside the center floor console.

    .

On the rear of the center floorconsole. For vehicles with a rearclimate control system, there will be two accessory power outletson the rear of the center floorconsole.

. In the rear cargo area
These are powered while thevehicle is in ON/RUN/START or ACC/ACCESSORY mode, or untilthe driver door is opened within10 minutes of turning off the vehicle. The power outlet located in the rearcargo area is powered at all times.

    See
    Power Outlets on page 5.7

When not using theoutlet be sure to cover it with theprotective cap.

    Notice:

Leaving electricalequipment plugged in for anextended period of time while thevehicle is off will drain the battery. Power is always suppliedto the rear cargo outlet. Always unplug electrical equipment whennot in use and do not plug in equipment that exceeds the

    maximum 20 ampere rating.

On the left hand side a couple inches above the small storage area. Look for a round cover about the size of a half dollar, if you know what a half dollar looks like.

I think my '05 SRX you could switch whether the outlets were hot all the time or not (they WERE hot all the time by default). I have not found any documentation about this on the 2nd gen SRX either....anybody find any info on this....from the dealer, etc?

Since I have not yet bought my new SRX (will be soon) I do not have a manual. Are you verifying that chapter5, page 8 does show how to have the outlets with power for 24/7? I think this is a highly desirable capability. In fact I paid to have my Acura MDX rigged this way when I bought it.

Just read my 2012 manual. Does not mention switching to always hot. Only the outlet in the cargo area is hot all the time.

    Hello GEORGEC,

I apologize my statement wasn’t clear. I was referring to the information about power outlets and the rear cargo area being powered at all times. I am not aware of a way to change the setup so that the other outlets have power all the time. I will document and pass this feedback along in regards for it being a highly desirable capability. Congratulations on your soon to be new SRX! Please let us know if you need any assistance locating the vehicle, or have any further questions regarding the vehicle. Thank you very much for your time.

Thank you. I could use assistance in convincing my wife that a new SRX is what she wants to replace her 2005 Cadillac DHS. It only has 61,000 miles but I think it is now time to replace. Part of the problem is that I just bought a 2013 Acadia Denali and she does not think we need two new vehicles. I must be missing something in my approach.

Re: 2013 SRX - Should I be able to charge my cell phone when engine is off?

After reading this thread, I coincidentally had to use the portable air compressor in my SRX rear storage area. Having that always on 12V outlet was very convenient. I was inflating bicycle tires, very quickly I might add, and didn't need to fumble with the ignition switch on the SRX.

    Hello GEORGEC,

You are welcome. Get your wife to the dealer to physically check out the SRX and test drive one! I see Gregory has already offered our assistance, so don't hesitate to reach out to us if we can help with anything.
