Re: Rear Seat Heaters turn on at start-up

Mine came on by themselves again a couple of weeks ago.

Once again, I went to the rear temperature control screen and found I could not adjust the rear temperature from the Cue screen. I set the drivers temperature to something different than the rear temperature and forced a change to the rear by using the sync. I could then adjust the rear temperature from the CUE screen, and the rear heaters have not come on by themselves since.

There is definitely a software bug that locks the rear temperature setting and turns on the rear heaters at every start-up. It had been over 2 months since I had this problem previously and it mysteriously came back.

Scroll all the way to the bottom and you'll see a bulletin for the unwanted heated seat activation. The dealer who replaced the module actually did the exact thing GM wants them not to do. There's a software update on the way.

Interestingly, we're seeing this symptom occasionally with our 2014, even though the bulletin is for only 2013 so far. See my thread here -

My 2013 premium was at the dealer this week for this issue and as mentioned there is a bulletin on the rear seat heater problem. The document ID # 3617132 was issued Sept 17 2013 and suggests the dealer with customer approval pulls the fuse for the rear seat heaters until a fix is found.

    Laura,

You asked if the issue had been fixed and as I indicated in my post all the dealer could do is pull the fuse until a fix is found. Can you please provide a status of the fix?

    Thank you.

My issue with not being able to turn off the rear seat heat appears to be resolved.

My dealer contacted me and I took my SRX in yesterday and per GM bulletin # PI1060A they reprogramed the HVAC control module and the rear heated seat control module. Codes 99449, AA83D.

Re: Rear Seat Heaters turn on at start-up

    This forum is really great

I have discovered recently that I have the same problem. I am not driving in the rear seat and the baby is sitting in a nice baby seat so nobody really complained...until recently my older son started complaining about the rear seats getting hot. We have done a number of tests to find out that they indeed turn on by themselves. No CUE settings can change this and it seems to be independent from how do you start car - remotely or in person, do you turn on the front heated seats or not. Sometimes my son turns them off manually and they turn on back again 15-20 minutes later.

    Dealer reprogram/update.

My '13 did this, the dealer reprogrammed the module and it never did it again while I owned it.

Re: Rear Seat Heaters turn on at start-up

I have my appointment for next Friday, we'll see if they do the right thing. I have told them about this known issue and quoted that bulletin number. Of course, the service representative has made the big eyes and told me they have never heard about it before.

I find it quite strange that the dealer does not update the software proactively. For example, I was there at this dealership just few months ago for reprogramming of the head unit (screen blackout issue). So they did upgrade the software in one module - why not to upgrade the software in another module proactively if you know that it solves a known problem? Or, at least, why not to check for other outstanding updates and mention it to the customer? No, they want me to waste my time and discover all this numerous bugs in their software on my own.

So far the most disappointing thing about SRX is really the quality of the electronics and software...I am sure that the rear wiper stopping at random position (often at ~2 o'clock) is also a software issue somewhere. All these minor issues are annoying, although not making the driving experience much worse - but they do damage the reputation of Cadillac quite a bit.

I agree about the software, but I think all manufacturers are this way.

I couldn't agree with you more. Having the 2010 model, I virtually "lived" at the dealership the 1st year I had the car. Like you, I can't understand why they don't put the latest version of the software for all modules in place when a customer brings his/her car in. But no, you have to make many trips back for each little problem. What's even more troubling is the fact that so many of the 2010's issues made it into subsequent years' models. Why are these things not fixed in later model years?

Re: Rear Seat Heaters turn on at start-up

The dealers could even turn it into profit. They could say "we can update all your software modules for $50". I'm sure it takes no longer than half an hour. I personally think if you are under warranty and a new software patch is released you should be entitled to it. Is that not an admission of defect in "any concerns in materials or workmanship?"
