The fact of the matter is that your car has not broken down or failed in any way so far. I understand the concern but until this becomes an actual problem there is no way that GM is going to do anything.

I don't mean to brush off your concern but you've got to look at it from their side. Just because you have found that your car has gas in the oil at a higher percentage than would be normal their responsibility is to fix it when it breaks, not pre-fix it before it break... because it might not break.

You may be on to something and in a few years gas in the oil might become something that is tested for in the regularly scheduled maintenance (paid for under the warranty)... But it also might just be an anecdotal experience that is not widespread.

    Time will tell.

RPD, if any machine consistently operates outside of its engineering design parameters, there should be no argument that there is an "actual problem". The question then becomes what are the engineering design parameters for fuel dilution in GM's VVT SIDI HFV6. Do you know? Care to find out and share it with me? Hopefully you do or you will because GM refuses to ... proprietary information and all that. Can you agree that that should raise one's suspicions? Would you be satisfied if you were in my position?

Re: Should I be concerned with Consumer Reports' review of the SRX 2013?

I've owned a lot of cars over the years and a lot of them have been unfavorably rated by CR. I have learn over the years that CR bases a lot of their reviews on surveys that have been commissioned by different groups and they know who is buttering their bread, so to speak. A lot of people who fill out these surveys also have an unrealistic expectations of new cars. I have seen some reports where they are nitpicking fitment issues where they are showing pictures and for the life of me, I can't even see what they are talking about. I'm as crazy about my cars as the next guy and if something isn't right I will take it back to the dealership in a heart beat and continue to take it back until it is right. That being said, of all the cars that I have had that were reviewed badly by CR, the last car that I had to have something fixed under warranty was a 2002 Ford I had that had a broken air bag clock spring in the steering wheel. Since that time I've had 12 cars. That's 12 cars that according to CR had reliability problems that never went back to a dealership other than for oil changes or tire rotations. Every car has their own little quirks but that doesn't mean that something is broken or something is wrong with them. Needless to say, either I have been VERY lucky or something is wrong at CR. If you want to know the truth, talk to people directly that have owned the cars.

This is the 3rd SRX that I purchased new since 2004. The first two were great cars but this one is showing how far Cadillac's quality and customer care are falling. Since the warranty expired several failures that have occurred that, in my opinion, should only happen when the car is much older or have much more mileage. The air conditioning has failed (at 65K miles), rear view camera failed (70K miles) and the headlight seal failed (70K miles). Cadillac's customer service (or lack thereof) shows no interest in taking care of these problems.

I had planned to buy one of the new Cadillac XT5s until it became very apparent that Cadillac does not stand behind their product or care about their longtime, loyal customers. Will be replacing this vehicle with a new BMW X5.

Our 2013 is and has been trouble free. I would buy another.

So, do you think BMW is going to repair similar issues for free well beyond the end of the warranty?

Re: Should I be concerned with Consumer Reports' review of the SRX 2013?

I've been on this Earth long enough to know, any car from any company can be a "lemon" Period. Some folks are lucky enough to get a lemon SRX. Some to get a lemon Lexus. Just because a few come here to complain doesn't mean it's a bad machine. All the Cadillac owners I know have nothing but great news on quality and workmanship. I can't say it's perfect though, I've seen bad backup cameras and also had a seatbelt part replaced on my '16 SRX. But still very impressed with overall quality. My Sister bought into the "Toyota Quality" B.S. (yes, they were awesome 40 years ago, but today...) and her Camry's interior literally shredded in only a few years, and it was garage kept. Quality is a gamble. If you get a bad one, sell it quickly and try again, maybe with another option. Luck is a tricky thing....

Too bad more people don't realize this but continue to label a specific model/brand/manufacturer as 'bad' because of an individual single experience with a single sample of a single product.

Re: Should I be concerned with Consumer Reports' review of the SRX 2013?

I have a 2013 SRX Premium that has been flawless for over 43,000 miles. I just finally replaced the Michelin 20" tires yesterday. That being said this is a very complicated vehicle with a lot of electronics. I gave this vehicle to my wife this past January, the first 18 months of its life was spent driving 30 miles each on the expressway to work. When arriving I would put a very nice NOAH car cover on it so the sun did not bake the electronics and rubber seals in the hot Florida sun. Every night was spent in my garage. Believe me this type practice extends the life of your vehicle. Upon trading in my 6 year old CTS (same drive with a cover) the dealer asked where I got it painted, it was original 105K mile paint. That being said if you treat a vehicle hard it may let you down much more quickly.

Re: Should I be concerned with Consumer Reports' review of the SRX 2013?

So far, I think, my SRX Premium 2014 (2+ years, 20K km) has demonstrated an average number of troubles. If I ignore the dealers visits related to the attempts to fix the design bugs (electronics, software....), recall, On* hardware upgrade etc, then I would end up with two problems. One was with the suspension and another one with the oil leak from the transfer box. I believe the second one was relatively expensive to fix (of course, for me it was under warranty). I am sure SRX is not a LandRover, but, I guess, given the complexity of the car and definitely not-above-average quality of GM equipment, I would expect some expenses after the warranty. Some electronic components may cost a lot. I believe someone mentioned a $4K computer that was dead and that has disabled AWD. But it is also a ~$60K car. You definitely want to keep it in good shape or there is no point having that kind of car at all.

I guess, if one cannot afford to spend 1,5-2K a year on SRX maintenance (average) or pay an unexpected bill of $2-4K for something serious - probably another vehicle could be more practical to have.
