    2013 SRX Keyless Alarm issue

Today I stopped my 2013 SRX to use the restroom. I had my key fob in my pocket. My wife stayed in the car with the engine running. When I walked away from the car the horn beeped three times to indicate that it was locking the doors and that there is a remote still inside the car. So far so good.

Before I returned to the car my wife decided to leave and when she opened the door the factory alarm went off. Clearly the alarm set when I left and when she left she set it off even thought she had her remote with her.

I don't have any idea how to prevent this from happening. My thought is that the alarm should not engage when there is a remote still in the car but obviously it is not programmed this way.

Anybody have an idea of a way to prevent this?

This is unfortunately a side effect of the system. The system knew that there was a fob in the car, but it doesn't know there was a person. So it assumes that you just left a fob in the car, and in this case someone could have smashed a window and opened the door from the inside. Therefore, it activated the alarm.

This brings up a good point - if you take an SRX for an oil change (or similar service) and both of you have fobs, you'll want to leave both fobs behind in the car while the techs go about their business. Otherwise it will lock one of them in the car and activate the alarm system. Been there, done that.

I think if you press and hold the door unlock button on the dash wait for three beeps it will disarm the system. When you restart the car it will rearm itself.

If you're sitting in the car with the engine off and you manually lock the doors using the dash button, the alarm sets, even if you have the remote inside the car with you. The only way to get out of the car without tripping the alarm is to unlock the doors using the remote. If you unlock the doors using the dash button, you'll trip the alarm. Does everyone else's car do this? Is this supposed to work this way?

One time I left the windows down on my SRX, and put the fob up in the house. I thought I could just reach in and hit the unlock button on the dash to get in and sure enough the alarm went off. I believe it remembers whatever fob is used last.

Sort of. I believe whichever remote unlocks the car or starts the engine, is the remote the car stays associated with during that cycle. As for reaching in and unlocking the doors, the car can't distinguish between that and someone breaking a window and reaching in. For that reason, it should trip the alarm.

I've had two instances (in three years) where I closed the door with the remote on the front seat and the doors locked anyway. For some reason it didn't recognize that the remote was present. Luckily, both times I was at home and had access to the second remote. This is why whenever I stop for gas, I always leave a window partially down. In case the doors decide to luck, I can just reach in and grab the remote. I suppose I could always call OnStar and have them unlock the doors. Problem is my cell phone is always in the car as well.

Yea I was try to same thing but was typing fast at work. 😊...but I always keep my cell on my hip so now I can use on* app anytime, and I can't leave my windows down when my SRX is locked...I have my SRX set so when it locks passively it also rolls up all my windows.(I love jumping out with all windows down and somebody looks at me crazy for leaving a new caddy open while going in Walmart or shopping mall then it locks and rolls up on its own)

I did not realize you could do this. How do you make this happen?

Me neither. How do you accomplish that? I don't have that setting in the Config Menu. Did they add that for 2011, or that a function in the OnStar app?

This is not a factory feature by far. I bought an auto window module. I have the ability to rolled down or up my windows via fob but because we have an awesome vehicle that locks passively it sends the same signal that it would via key fob and rolls up the windows so I Truly do not pull out fob even to roll windows up now
