Hey all, I am posting on behalf of a customer of ours here at the dealership I work for in CT. The vehicle info 2010 SRX. It has the regular style h11 headlamps in it. We have been trying to install Hid setup in this for 3 months now. First we installed a kit from one source. The right side lamp would not function, then would, then wouldn't. After hours of messing around we determined that the power source was not enough to power the ballast and temporarily tapped into the fuse box to power a relay and have the headlamps on with key on. Basically we eliminated the headlamp switch and wiring and powered the hid from the battery through a relay.
It still gave us fits on the right side though, but with some help from the companies tech guy we had new ballasts and bulbs en route. Once I switched the parts everything appeared to work, still on our relay power. I asked that this stay installed for a few days to verify the new parts indeed fixed our problems. It did for 3 days. Then he came in and told me the right side was acting up. If you recycled the key from on to off back to on it usually reset and they would both work. This was like this for a few weeks.
He came searching and stumbled across this site and found a company Ddm tuning. They appeared to be highly recommended here so we called. The tech guy was awesome and we ordered yet another set of lights and ballast from ddm, also included was the relay kits he recommended. This time we also ordered a kit to put in the gm accessory fog lamp kit we were installing also.
So fast forward to this weekend, I removed everything previously installed, did all the fog lamp kits install and then the hid stuff. Turned the key on and viola, the fog lamps came on working perfectly everytime. The headlamps, not so much. The right side was hit or miss. When it was on, the left was off. The couple times I got them both on, the relay battery feed wire got so hot, to hot to touch. No other wires were getting hot or even warm. I took everything apart and checked and re checked the connections and all seemed right. Also when you start the vehicle the relay in the harness was clicking like mad. Shut the engine off, the relay stops clicking. Something is very strange with this vehicle and I am going nuts trying to figure it out.
Also, the warrantied kit that we removed was reinstalled into a fellow employees 07 silverado and is currently working just fine. Remember the pass lamp had issues in the srx. Even on straight battery power.
Any thoughts, ideas, anything. Even if its to trade it in and buy a new srx would be great. lol
