    2012 SRX Sunroof Wind Deflector

A lot of us that own 2010's have complained about the loud wind buffeting that occurs with the sunroof open. It can only be minimized by cracking the rear windows. Yesterday I test drove a 2012 while my 2010 was in for the 30,000 mile service. Lo and behold Cadillac has added a unique pop up wind deflector complete with a perforated cloth-like material about 2-3" high. Best of all it works!!! Now it has the same amount of wind noise that you'd expect, minimal and non intrusive.

I was also impressed by the 3.6 DI. It felt slightly more powerful than my 2.8 turbo. Unfortunately the SRX I test drove was FWD and the torque steer was quite noticeable under heavy start up acceleration. With AWD this thing should run out quite nicely for a luxury SUV.

Count me in for a 2013 with CUE.

Yea, if we could compare some pics between a '10 and '12 we might see a difference.

It wasn't possible to get decent close up cell phone pics of the mesh detail on either deflector. A couple things are obvious. The fabric mesh on the 2012 has holes that are a couple of different sizes not all uniform like the 2010. Additionally the 2012 deflector stands up higher when deployed, I'd estimate well over 2" (didn't measure at the dealership). The 2010 deploys about 1 3/4" about exactly the width of the smart key. To me there was clearly a modification made between 2010 and 2012.

Smiley very good observation. Now I wonder if a 12 will interchange with a 10.

I'm going back to the dealer today and I'll try to see if they can be retrofitted.

Re: 2012 SRX Sunroof Wind Deflector

I have attached pics of the 2010 deflector with key as reference, about 1 3/4" high deployed with very fine mesh. The defector was modified in 2011 and is also shown. It is 2 3/4" high deployed with a more open mesh. Note the 2010 top frame strip is larger and the 2011 top strip isn't visible from the front view.

I asked if the two were interchangeable and the response was" we'd have to have them side by side to know for sure".

This solves the mystery as to why 2011-12 SRX's don't have the buffeting of the 2010. They fixed it.

And it only took them 3 years to fix it! How impressive!

Actually it was fixed after one model year. Good starting in 2011. Just wish they'd done more testing for us 2010 owners.

I looked at the deflector on my 2010 looks like a major job to remove. GMPARTS DIRECT list 2011 deflector around $70.00.
Think I will wait till this time next year and go for a 2013.

I'm with you on the 2013. To me it's not worth the risk of leaks, etc that comes with a retro-fit. The 2013's will likely be out in 8-9 months.
