Iphone stops playing music after a phone call-help?

Hi everyone. I just purchased my first Caddy ('11 SRX with Nav), and it's very nice so far. However, I'm having a few technical problems and I'm wondering if any of you have some advice for me.

I have a 32 gig Iphone 3GS that I use as both my phone and my ipod. I've noticed that after I receive a call (via the speakers through the bluetooth), the music goes on pause, but when I unpause it, I can't hear the music anymore (even though the system says that it's still playing). The only thing that seems to work is unplugging, and then replugging in the phone. This is not a good solution as I intend on keeping the phone in the center console hidden away from everything.

When I brought this up to the dealer, she said I should just use the AUX option, but again that's not ideal as then I lose the steering wheel functionality (she also told me that the DVD player would not play DVD's, and that it didn't have the smartkey entry, both of which are untrue). Am I missing something?

Last question; is there a good way to see what streets are currently ahead with the Nav? Sometimes the roads aren't very visible on the screen. Thanks for any help on these matters guys!

Try updating your iPhone's firmware. This is done via iTunes.

Rather than using your iPhone to play music, a better option is to simply use a thumbdrive plugged into the USB port in the center console. You can get a 32GB thumbdrive and put all of your music on it. This has a few advantages. First, you never have to worry about disconnecting and reconnecting your iPhone every time you get in or out of your car. You can just leave it plugged in. I'm sure you'd rather have a thief steal a thumbdrive than your iPhone. Secondly, it works exactly like the iPhone. All of the menus display on your Nav screen just like they do with your iPhone. Third, no need to worry about it being exposed to extreme weather. Thumbdrives are pretty much impervious to hot and cold temperatures. Unless we're talking about an oven or a freezer, you'll do just fine. Fourth, you're accessing your music "directly". It's not going through any software on a device. This makes for an inherently more reliable connection. No need to worry about software conflicts or updates. Fifth, playlists are super easy to make. Just create a folder, name it and dump whatever songs you want into it. That folder/playlist will show on your Nav screen.

As for seeing the streets ahead on your Nav better, try adjusting the scale. Once the map is displayed, turn the "Menu Select" knob. This has the effect of zooming in or out on your map. Zooming in will show you streets that otherwise might not show. Zooming out will display a wider perimeter. You should see a scale across the bottom of the screen. If you press the button in the middle of the "Menu Select" knob it brings up the menu. There, you can select from an "overhead" view or a "bird's eye" view (my personal favorite). Experiment to see which your prefer.
