Getting ready to do mine. Did any of you do any cleaning, prep, or whatever before painting?

Same here. I did this on my 2011 SRX right after the OP posted this back in the day. I traded it in two weeks ago for a 2014. In those four years, I never had to do any touch-ups. This was the first mod that I performed on my new SRX.

Did mine with high temp spray can, just used a piece of cardboard to protect from overspray. I did the can only, not the arms. No one has mentioned the ugly black strip or streak that runs up the exhaust can from the water coming out of the drain hole on the bottom front of it. This makes the silver even more unattractive with burnt water creating a mess of black on the can. My wife found this thread and had me do this immediately. Thanks

I did mine yesterday! Washed muffler and rear arms with household cleaner/water, rinse, & dry. Rolled on Tremclad flat black high heat enamel paint. Looks 1000X better!

I finally got around to doing this. The high heat flat black spray paint goes on really easily and dries to a nice even flat coating....looks factory to me. The silver showing underneath really was a distraction.

    HI Marc,

Just got a black 2016 SRX and yes can't help but notice the bright contrast of the heat shield and rocker arms. I am curious after having the vehicle for 3 plus years any issues with the paint? I believe you used a flat grill paint. Thanks and hope all is well with your SRX. I hope to keep mine as good looking as in your photo.

My picture is in post 76. I had a few chips in mine after about a year, so I touched them up. Just took a minute. After 2 years it looks great. I used BBQ black Rust-o-leum. The paint stunk up my garage for a few days after.

Thanks for the quick reply Movinon,

Bought the paint today as recommended. Going to do the touch up outdoors ( wait to temp gets over 50) and will share photo. Cheers!!

I had to touch mine up only twice but I never touched up my wife's GMC and it still looks like it is fresh and new.

FYI: I didn't use flat paint. I used a small pint of "matte" black finish made by Rust-Oleum. The paint which is designed for painting the extreme heat of a charcoal grill so it will be able to withstand the high temps of a muffler too.

I like the Blacked-out look also. I recieved a Pressure Cleaner for Christmas and now I have another project I can use it on, Prep the muffler and arms for painting Black.
Thanks guys for the Great idea.
