    hey marc,

i did wind up painting it all about a year or so ago. easy as pie with tire ramps, a tarp and 2 different sized brushes for the big broad areas and the more detailed parts. most parts got a double coat until the can was gone, and it still looks mint.

A great idea! I don't usually mod cars but I'm considering this one.

I probably should add my 2013 SRX that had been painted underneath before I picked it up from the dealer.

Wow, is this all 2013 or something special you had them do?

Sorry if I didn't make this a little bit clearer... I asked my dealer if they would paint my muffler and the rear suspension before I picked up my 2013 SRX.

I would leave the suspension the natural color but definitely paint the muffler it looks awful that way. And what is the deal with the huge heavy mufflers manufacturers are designing now anyway?

Unfortunately the reason for bigger mufflers is because a larger size muffler can help the manufacture gain more net HP... you can see a big difference from the 2010-11 SRXs that had the 3.0L engines to the larger size of the newer more powerful 3.6L engines.

*I actually prefer to have my two rear trail arms painted matte black as well so this way nothing is visible from behind the SRX. I don't mind seeing silver trail arms on a sports car but not really on a SUV.

    Just my .02

I realize this comment is over a year old but what does this mean? How do you heat treat it so it burns in?

NO QUESTION THE PAINTED PARTS LOOK COOL.....I think I will do that little project. Is Rustoleum the best paint?

There are a number of High Temp paints on the market... but I highly recommend Rustoleum for it has worked great for me over the years.

I also believe GM didn't paint it to save money. I used to have a 2008 CTS and the mufflers were painted, subsequent years were not. No one can convince me it was done because the bare aluminum looks good. I think I'll paint mine too, it always looks unfinished to me.

I would be interested to know too. I have found that painting the way I do has held up very well for me and I haven't had to touch up any of my vehicles at all yet.

I agree on both points! BTW: I am pretty sure GM did it to save money...

I did this on the weekend. 1 rattle can of flat black BB-Q paint. 3 thin coats. Took about 1 hour. No need to heat treat. Just follow the directions on the can.

Left the control arms alone. I like the contrast.

    It looks great!

I also like the color of your SRX too.
