Not a big fan of Direct Induction

The least little acceleration with my 2010 SRX makes so much noise. If i'm on the highlway and try to accelerate to keep up with moving traffic, the engine roars loudly when it downshifts. People around me including my wife are looking at me like I'm some sort of speed freak because the engine sounds like it's doing twice the speed?????wtf.

    Anyone else feel this way?

No I don't feel that way at all. You seem to be very dissatisfied with your SRX. Perhaps, you need to think about another vehicle. Life is too short to be unhappy.

Re: Not a big fan of Direct Induction

I have honestly stated many times that the 3.0 eng while adequate, does require a high rpm (revving noise) to pass and that is one reason I wish I had gotten a Turbo. But I would not say the noise is offensive, though certainly noticeable, as in most engines downshifting. (especially @ the 6,000 rpm that it needs to really fly!) Maybe it is more unexpected in such a refined sled?? I really find it normal at initial launch, however. My gripe was at highway, passing rpm's.

You may be like me, in that I love the feel of acceleration and wish the X was a little torquier/ thus quieter, upon stimulation. I noticed this issue on first test driving and decided it was the nature of the beast, within my tolerances, and I could live with it. ( I wasn't buying a Camaro ) Caddy must agree with us somewhat and thus the new 2012 eng. I suggest test driving a different 2010/2011 for comparo and see if it is a DI problem. Many of the Equinox/Terrains had noisy DI fuel pumps. Noise is so subjective.

My clear comparison would be my Buick Enclave, which was definitely quieter while revving it's 6 speed tranny, with it's extra torque/HP. I bet the 3.6 in 2012 resolves this. I've thought of upgrading to the Turbo at times. Hey, anything can be "gold-plated" .

One of the reasons I traded the SRX in, for a wagon.
Most have adapted, but it was something I personally couldn't get past.
Like pony said, "life is too short."

    It's Direct Injection. Not induction.

And DI is the new way forward for engines, so get used to it! SIDI engines will be the past soon enough!

I have noticed that a friend of mine who has a Volvo crossover has the same revved-up engine noise. But if I see the quote "life is too short" one more time I think I'm going to scream.

Don't scream Steve, get Cancer, and beat it as I did, twice. Then it won't seem quite as corny.

Re: Not a big fan of Direct Induction

If that is what you deem the fix to the problem. Quit bitching about something that you cannot do anything about. The engines rev high, and do make a little more noise. Some of that is from the high rev's and some because it is an SUV and they are just a little noisier. Whatever, you can't make it quit, so either live with it or get rid of it as GM Jim did and get something you think will make you happier. Life is too short to be unhappy.
