If you`re speaking of that little black box that lifts out, I believe its an ashtray for smokers or it could be a storage for coins for non smokers

If you speaking of that area behind the wooden door, thats where the lighter is....at least on Canadian models...could also be used for small odds and ends

We use it to put loose change in or as a cell phone/ ipod holder. Yes, it is there on our Premium model also.

It comes out for two reasons. One, to clean it. Two, an optional "smokers kit" fits in that space. I believe the smokers kit comes standard for Canadian models.

Indeed. Apparently we're smokers prone to flat tires...

(as CDN models get smokers package and spare tires standard )

Is the smokers package just an ash tray with a hinged opening top?

Where is the space time stored? Is space just extra storage when no spare?

Yes, you can see it at the bottom of this pic. Lighter is inside the door in front of the shifter.

I'm going to assume you mean spare tire... and yes, there is just mass storage with no tire (US), or a tire and pump in place of storage (CDN).
It's all under here... (hehe the dealer even gave me the picture of the SRX... lol)

    As in space time continuum?

I believe it's stored in the flux capacitor.

Which of course requires one point twenty-one jiggawatts...

If the key fob battery is weak, the manual recommends placing the fob in that small pocket so the vehicle will start.

The space you're referring to is in the center console. If you open the console, there's an indented area that fits the keyfob. On the other hand, they were referring to the little cutout space directly behind the gearshift. I just have spare change in that.

Optional Smokers ash tray makes great place for change and fills in the center console hole

Ohhhh not me it locks me out if I forget it.

I think a like that smokers package as a way to get more storage. I put my iPhone 5 in the crevice but it doesn't sit corectly and "bangs" on the shift knob. Can someone takes some close-ups of that smoker acc. opened up as well. How much are they?
