Re: A/C Major Issue - Service Tag

Thanks. I appreciate the help. The reason i am a bit skeptical is because I really felt like the dealer was playing hide the ball with me for several weeks on this issue and I asked multipe times but never got a straight answer on what parts needed replacement and what the actual problem was. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to car repairs etc. and how the dealer/factory service bulletin stuff works so the help here is very enlightening. BTW, it is almost 90 here today and the A/C is working fabulously, knock on wood.

Add me to the list of "steamed" owners. Blows cool at best. Cool doesn't cut it, when it's 90.
    Off to the dealership today.

I noticed, today, my A/C blows cold even when I shut it off. Blows when ventilation is on.

My wife just got the SRX bug and we drove the new model at the dealer. After reading through a number of these posts, I'm thinking the 2011 may be worth the wait while they work out the bugs.

Glad you got the "chillin" groove back on!

The only question I would have is WHY was the system low on freon. The A/C is a sealed unit using "O" rings, etc to keep leaks from happening. A properly sealed unit should not lose any freon for years!

If your A/C worked well when you first got it, and now it was low, something is leaking.

Freon has a dye ink in it. I'm sure they blacklighted it and would take note of any leaks.
    At least i hope.

Yes they did a dye test. They said it must have come from the factory that way.

Hmmm, same problem. At 75 deg, AC is fine; at 90 it doesn't cut it at all and left side of car is about 10 deg warmer than the right side. Dealer says it is normal in a dual zone car for the left side to lag right side when system is underperforming. Car going in on Tuesday. Hoping for quick simple fix.

NOT NORMAL!!!!!! Same issue here. I am not sure mine has been fixed either. Only 75 degrees today,
so I will be fine. In my 2006 SRX. I would have to turn it down it would be so cold. I am currently cool at best.
The car that is....... i have never been TOO cold yet.

Re: A/C Major Issue - Service Tag

Just a word of advice. After the recharge, take the car back into the the dealer for another black light test after using the system for a couple of days. In the past for me, on another vehicle, the dye (hence the leak) was not detected by the dealer the day of the recharge when they were looking for a leak. I thought I was home free. I was mistaken.

You don't want an a/c failure later in hot weather at the worst possible time for you, and then you find the dealer is backed up with a/c-related work.

I made this mistake just once, with my wife's car. Guess who wound up with the car in my fleet that had a properly functioning a/c? And guess who wound up sweltering in the putrid heat for days, suffering until the proverbial "earliest appointment" day arrived?

And try driving your car in sweltering weather, high humidity, and a rainstorm with the windows rolled up. With no a/c to strip off the humidity, the defrost unit is about less than useless clearing the inside windows.

Just a suggestion. A pound of prevention......

92 degrees in Southern Oklahoma today, and the wife says ours is blowing ice cold air. Unless there were some bad parts manufactured, I can't see why the SRX would be having air conditioning problems. GM has been making basically these same systems for years, and all my GM cars have always had ice cold air.

Jim.....I think there is a TSB on chipmunks, mice, and a/c refrigerant loss. :-)
