Watch these people like a hawk. Towards the end of my free months I get a letter wanting me to renew. I was undecided at the time, so I opted for a 3 month deal for 22 bucks. Filled out the form, wrote a check and mailed it. Today I get another bill and thought, boy they are quick in sending out renewal notices. After looking at it I realized that it was a billing for the dates I have already paid. I call them up and was told that I was offered a January deal and although they cashed the check Jan 29, they did not process the order until Feb 1st, sorry you have to pay a higher rate. Needless to say, I cancelled it. Amazing lack of customer service.

Yeah, I plan to keep a close eye on them. I have to call and have my credit card no. removed from my account, which I plan to verify on their website. The lady told me to do that when I first got the deal. That way, they can never recharge me without my permission. Personally, I will never give them a check. You have greater protection using a credit card.

Re: XM Radio for $77 a year!!!

I have engrossed in everything satellite
radio for the past 7 years or so. I was
onboard with XM the very week they went
live back in the early 2000s.

I can tell you from experience that SiriusXM
customer service is probably the worst of its
    kind you will ever encounter.

Anytime I have to call them I am on the phone
for at least 15-20 minutes. Most of the agents
don't speak very good english (though this has
somewhat improved) and they sit and try to
continually sell you upgraded service packages.

They don't always get things done right the
first time. So any changes you make usually
need to be followed up upon.

And, yes, they absolutely do sneak in charges.
This kind of discussion is rampent across the
    satellite discussion forums.

Personally, the quality of satellite radio has
plummeted since Sirius took over. The only
reason I still keep it is for the talk radio, nav
and weather packages. However, for music
the repetition is abysmal and the sound quality
is quite poor compared to an iPod or CD.

Good advice to watch out for them.

The sad thing is I like their programming, but have been burned in the past by them. Turned in a lease vehicle and continued to be billed for service. Took 3 tries to finally stop getting billed. I was in hopes that the merger with Sirius would have improved things, but obviously not.

The tuner in my '04 V was almost useless. The signal strength, sound, everything, was awful. But it comes in much better in my '09 and the sound is excellent. I'm gonna have to play hardball with these guys since my subscription ends tonight and I want to keep it...

The $77 is for "XM Everything", which is everything except "The Best of Sirius". This is regularly $12.95 a month. The Nav Traffic is extra for all plans.

I will let you know tomorrow as I have to renegotiate my yearly deal.

However, from everything I have heard lately --- YES --- the deal is still there.

Question for the people who said they were getting their credit card numbers removed from the account. How did they get it in the first place?

When your free subscription expires XM will try to get you to commit to a six month intro rate and then ask for your credit card number to be able to get the special rate and then want to keep your credit card number on file for their future automatic billing.

*Those that get the $77 rate did you have to let your subscription expire before they would give you that great low price?

Called XM yesterday. Asked to cancel (which is what you need to do) and
found out I still have another month left on my service agreement so they
told me to call back in October.

...but here is how it generally works...

Just before your agreement expires, call them to cancel. Tell them the
service is too expensive. They will then tell you they will cancel your
account but switch you to a special account manager who will then offer
    you a better deal.

I called and got the $22 deal when the subscription on my Acadia expired. Also renewed XM internet radio (to mainly use with iPhone and Sonos - $12 for a year). Then two months later I traded in the Acadia on the SRX. Called SiriusXM to discuss options. Very friendly rep transferred my account, gave me a credit of $28.39 for unused balance and set up an automatic renewal (in December) at the $77 rate. So I should only be charged $48.61 plus the music royalty fee. I used a virtual credit card that expires in January so no automatic renewals.

    Never Forget

I don't trust them when they tell you they will automatically renew you at the $77 rate. Good thing you have that credit card that expires. They try a lot of tricky stuff. One time I pressed for the $77 deal. Got it. No credit card. When I got the bill it was $77 for 7 months. If I didn't read the bill carefully and just paid it I would have gotten screwed. Had to call and straighten that out.
