Tow cable attachment. With the increasing popularity of flatbed towing, there has be an attachment point for the tow trucks wench. That cover comes off and an Ihook screws in. That allows the tow truck to have a place to attach the wench directly to the frame to pull the car up onto the flat bed.

Speaking of towing, everyone with the AWD version should know to use a "flatbed only". If you ever need a tow truck, make sure you let them know you want a flatbed "before" they send a truck out. They should know this, but don't assume they'll remember.

    Re: Bumper

It is a export requirement only. And only for flat land towing. The bumber system was not designed to withstand, pulling
you out of a ditch or up the incline of a flatbed. It was too expensive to make fascia's with
and without tow hook hole covers. So everyone gets one. If it was meant to use as a towing
device, we would have included a tow hook. Do what you want, but I ain't using them.
They are also used for ocean tie down.
The same thread is currently on the CTS forum. Now everyone here will be screamimg,
WHERE'S MY TOW HOOK!!!!!!! I CAN'T LIVE W/O MY TOW HOOK!!!!!!!

^^ HAHA. I remember the huge to-do about the tow hooks. The frackin' sky was falling over that one.
