    SRX Has a "Black Box"

Does everyone know that the SRX has an Event Data Recorder (page 12-18) which is similar to the black box of an airplane? I'm not sure if this is good or bad. I just think everyone needs to be aware of it. Reason being, this information may be subpoenaed by law enforcement for prosecution purposes (page 12-19).

    Event Data Recorders

This vehicle has an Event Data
    Recorder (EDR). The main purpose
of an EDR is to record, in certain
    crash or near crash-like situations,
such as an airbag deployment or
hitting a road obstacle, data that will
    assist in understanding how a
    vehicle's systems performed. The
EDR is designed to record data
    related to vehicle dynamics and
safety systems for a short period of
time, typically 30 seconds or less.

The EDR in this vehicle is designed
    to record such data as:

. How various systems in your
    vehicle were operating

. Whether or not the driver and
    passenger safety belts were
    buckled/fastened

. How far, if at all, the driver was
    pressing the accelerator and/or
    brake pedal

. How fast the vehicle was
    traveling

According to the Washington Post article in 2006, 75% of new cars have EDR. I'm sure that number has increased in 4 years. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...021601781.html

Indeed it has, i think almost all new cars have them now, and if not, they will soon.

Yeah, people actually don't know this. I think it's federal mandate to eventually have these in every car sold...
