    Six Different Tone Settings!!!

I wondered if everyone was aware of this. There are six different "Tone" settings, one for each source. HDD, USB, CD/DVD, Aux, AV and Radio. If you only adjusted the tone settings once and you noticed the sound is a little flat, that's because it is "flat".....literally. You were probably listening to a different source when you originally adjusted the tone. You have to go to each source and set the tone.

This may sound like a headache, but it's actually a good thing and you only have to do it once. Different sources require different equalization. E.g. Most modern CD's are very dynamic and don't need a lot of bass boost, so you may choose to reduce the bass. But when you listen to Oldies on XM, the songs might need some boost. Having separate tone controls for each source allows you to custom tailor the sound according to the requirements of the source.

Yeah noticed this right off the bat.

XM radio needs a lot of tone help. It sounds
    awful at its piss-poor bitrate.

I remember the days when XM first arrived
and it sounded as good as a CD. Today you
get better sound with two cans and string.

I think something happened to them... right around the time Serious decided to take over. All the good DJ's seem to have been kicked in favour of serious' crappy no personality ones. The quality has gone down, and repeat rates of songs have gone up. Just my own observations.

    TheCaptain,

    You have very keen observations.

You have no idea how many people are
    agreeing with those observations.

The Sirius/XM message boards are littered
with complaints about how bad the service
has become. Small playlists, too much
music repetition and over-chatty DJs are
    among the top complaints.

...and the sound quality is just plain lackluster.

Sirius has always sounded decent in 3 different tuners in my Town Cars. XM sounded like garbage in my '04 V. But it sounds excellent in my '09 V, so...
