Actually, only the Platinum Ice has the tri-coat. The Chrystal Red uses a "tintcoat", which I think is similar. God only knows why they chose a different name. They use a "top" coat over a slightly different colored "base" coat. This produces a unique color effect.
Pros: Looks great
Cons: Cost $995 more, requires a two part touch-up paint, which is difficult
to do for small paint chips, almost impossible for all but the finest
body shops to properly match, should you have an accident
White is a Tri coat paint. Base white, pearl on top, then clear for the finish. Where as tintcoat uses a tinted clearcoat to provide an amazing finish, and the rest are just a metallic or gloss coat then clear.
