    Side Mirrors

After cleaning our new SRX for the second time, I noticed that with the slightest touch/push the side mirrors (whole housing) move a good inch. we have a Luxury FWD and excuse my ignorance, but I don't believe we have power mirrors.

Should the mirrors move so freely?

Are they moving from where the mirror is attached to the door, or where the mirror is attached to the support affixed to the door?

Even if you don't have power folding mirrors, you have "break-away" mirrors that are designed to give fore and aft if struck. They should fold all of the way forward and backward. Try doing this.

Without checking, I can't remember which models have power folding mirrors. Push the round directional mirror button on the driver's door at the 6 o'clock position and they'll fold and unfold if you have this feature.

    Re: Side Mirrors

It is a nice breakaway feature as Sube mentioned. One i am glad for, because on the second day of owning my brand new 07 Cobalt SS, i had it parked on the street to show a neighbor. Just as we walked towards it, an elderly lady drove by and smoked my mirror with hers! Boy was i irate!
Luckily, because of the breakaway feature, my mirror popped forward and up, and went over her mirror, suffering no damage to mine, but scuffing hers.

    Re: Side Mirrors

I'll try to pushing all the way forward, but I failed to mention that i can grab either mirror with my index and thumb and wiggle about an inch both ways with no resistence. That's what bother me since I'm use to mirrrors will kind of ratchet back and forth, but can be jiggled.

I hope I'm describing what I'm talking about.

    Re: Side Mirrors

Ok, what I've heard is traditional breakawya. But, in my cas, I can jiggle the mirrors on boths sides with almosst no effort (two fingers). I've never had a car that had mirrors this loose, am I the only one?

I checked my mirrors today; there's no play in them. (Not in the housing nor in the mirror inserts.)

    Re: Side Mirrors

I noticed this a bit with the demo Lux model the dealer had while i was going over it. The driver side mirror was "loose" as you say when i brushed against it. I pushed it back to align with the "holder," or "support" and it made a small "snap" sound and didn't move again. I also noted the same thing on the passenger mirror on the same demo SRX...

    GMJim,

You probably need to "reset" your mirrors. Page 1-20 explains how.

    Re: Side Mirrors

Sounds to me like your mirrors got moved without using the motorized function (power function). After that happens, the power mechanism disengages to prevent it from breaking and thus the mirror feels "loose".

With your mirror adjustment control on the driver side, put the L/R selector switch in the middle setting. Then press down on the adjustment switch above the L/R selector. This is the power fold feature.

You may have to hit it a couple of times to get the power mirrors to re-engage both mirrors and work in unison.

Once you get them back engaged, I think you will find that the play is gone. From this point forward, use the power fold rather than pushing the manually.

    Re: Side Mirrors

Right on, My passenger side was "loose" and didn't fold. I messed with it a bit, and now they both fold in unison.

Now my "flash three times" lane change indicator works when it wants to. I don't think there is a setting for that.

Very minor things for an awesome vehicle. My 06 SRX had neither of the above features, so I didn't
know what I was missing anyway.........

    Hmmmm

Power folding mirrors. I have had the SRX since October and thanks to this Thread, have discovered that I have them. Will wonders never cease? Amazing.
