    Gas tank noise

At solw speeds I hear a thud from rear like loose jack or spare tire. Dealer says it is my gas tank and Cadillac is working on a fix. Does anyone else have this problem?

What specifically is wrong with the gas tank? Did they say? Is it a mounting bracket or something like that?

Apparently, this is a known issue. Haven't experienced it personally.....not yet anyway.

    Re: Gas tank noise

I don't hear a "thud" but I do hear what sounds like gas sloshing sometimes when I back out of the garage. Our driveway is on a bit of a incline.

    Re: Gas tank noise

I haven't noticed either of these sounds on mine. The thud is something else, but isn't the sloshing pretty much normal? The tank holds 21 gallons. That's a lot of fuel moving around. I always heard this on my last car when the tank was full. It wasn't particularly loud and only lasted a second after I came to a complete stop. The only time I noticed it was when pulling into my garage. I think the ambient noise outside would make this difficult, if not impossible, to hear.

I thought it was normal also, that's why I haven't been concerned. I have heard this in other vehicles I've had also. I usually notice it when backing out of the garage. Haven't heard any thuds though.

    Re: Gas tank noise

Noise more than just some gas moving around when backing from garage. Hopefully dealer will have reply from GM in few days. Evidently most owners don't have a tank problem.

    Re: Gas tank noise

I haven't heard of this yet.

Fuel slosh is a normal condition though, we stopped using baffles in our fuel tanks about a decade ago.
It can be really bad on trucks with the longitudinal 30+ gallon tanks.

Mechanic (Technician) says this is covered under Concern Bulletin Number PIT4927. Maybe the Mexicans installed a faulty tank? Maybe I should get ear plugs or go back to a 4 Runner?

    Re: Gas tank noise

That PI indicates engineering is looking into it and no fix should be attempted yet.
It looks like the shape of the tank might be amplifying the fuel slosh.

    Re: Gas tank noise

Just backed out the garage with a completely full tank. I rolled the windows down and turned off the stereo. I literally stuck my head out the window. I couldn't even hear the fuel slosh, let alone any other noises.
