    DIC: Service Rear Axle Message

For those that may get this message on center dash.
Monday night I got it & called my dealers service Dept.
Took my car in the next morning @ 10:30 AM.
After checking it out turns out it needed a new filter.
Ones that come with SRX are to small & can get clogged up.
Took 2 days to order it & fix my car. Good thing for their loaner car.
So those that get this message don't panic it's not a big deal @ all.

One of their customers got the message "Replace Rear Axle"
Service guy said no way it was fine just needed filter replaced like mine.

Speaking of my loaner it was 09 SRX & boy I hated driving it even though it's faster, Damn BOAT!

Wow, what a weird issue, Barry. Any idea what VIN number range or build date(s) can expect this?

What filter are you talking about....air filter or some other filter?

There's suppose to be a filter in the rear axle somewhere?
That what dealer said & what is written on my receipt.
They replaced the filter & rear axle fluid.

Since the original filter is too small and gets clogged prematurely, did they say if the new filter that they put in has a different design? If not, is this something that's going to need service frequently?

Re: DIC: Service Rear Axle Message

Funny I got mine Wed 1/6/10 and before I got home I got the service rear Axel message. Took it to my Chev Dealer and the
service guy gave me the same info. I think theres going to be a lot of filters going in, for almost 50K this is a no no. I would
have taken it back to the dealer I bought it from but I would have missed my Ferry, didn't want to stay overnight. Burke Cadillac
in Cape May NJ, service people told me if I didn't take it to a Cadillac dealer there was no warantee, Strange. I hope this car
is not a problem for all of us, it's really good looking.

Re: DIC: Service Rear Axle Message

Had the car in to the dealer, they changed the filter and rear fluid and reprogramed the computer as there was a bulletin on the 2010 for something.
Had the car back one day and service rear axle was on again. Called Cadillac and they called the dealer and talked to the tech, he's been fooling with it all day and
took it for a test ride a little while ago and no light, says I can have it back tomorrow if the service light stays off.
Seems there's a pump back there somewhere that he was getting a fault on
    also.
Read something somewhere that the tech's can't keep up with all the electronics on the new car. Kind of wish I had bought the Lincoln MKS, Oh well to late for that now.
It looks like Obama is stimulating my rear axle. If this is what happens when they take over GM, health care will really be screwed up.

    Dorsey,

So far I only know of two instances where this has occurred, so hopefully it's not widespread. I haven't had it happen yet, but I mentioned this issue to my Service Manager and he wasn't aware of it. Cadillac seems to be really poor at disseminating information to their own Techs. As soon as a problem "first" appears there should be a service bulletin sent to all dealerships, even if they've yet to find a fix. This would at least make them aware of the problem in the event that they get a customer with the same issue. It looks really bad when customers know about impending problems "before" the service departments.

I'm wondering if you have a faulty pump in addition to the filter problem. I say that because Barry's fix seemed to work.....knock on wood.

Smile Re: DIC: Service Rear Axle Message

Well it ran good to AC, seems like when the tech refills the fluid it has to be done a certain way. The second problem was caused by the fluid being 1/16 of an inch low which won't let the warning light go off. Acceleration good, had it up to 90mph and the gas milage was deccent. Hope it stays this way, it was also ok in the snow.
They have this system where the tech has to be online with GM to fix anything.
Going to install a new battery as the tech told me the new GM batterys are not that good.
    See Ya Dorsey
