    Heated Seats & Remote Start

Does anybody know at what outside temperature the heated seats automatically turn on when using the remote start? Today was about 34 degrees so I expected them to be on, but they weren't.

Does it mention anything about this in the manual?

I checked the manual thoroughly and could not find any mention of a "specific" exterior temperature that activates the heated seats during remote starts. Perhaps Cadillac Customer Assistance can answer that.

I'm looking at page 2-9 ... just says "... if it is cold outside." For me, I would like seats heated if temp is below 50. At low 30's I can't imagine anyone not wanting them heated.

If you have a Facebook acct, I suggest you pose this question on Cadillac's fan page as there are Cadillac customer service reps who quickly answer questions asked on their wall.

haha yea, but cold is variable. 30F (1C) is not cold. I wouldn't want my seats heating until -10 (14F)!

I was wondering this same thing. The rear window defogger and heater mirrors should turn on also, but I haven't seen anything happen with remote start and it has been down to 27 on some days that I have used it. Still nothing.

I have had the rear window defogger turn on automatically, but have yet to have the heated seats turn on automatically. The temperature has been somewhere in the 30s when this happened.

Yeah, my rear defogger turned on too automatically, which is also the control for the heated mirrors. Would really like the seat warmers to turn on though.

Re: Heated Seats & Remote Start

Well ... I called Cadillac customer service today (twice because they disconnected me) and it was a total waste of nearly 30 minutes. Sounds like the "customer service" is out of Mexico???

I have the settings turned on as described on page 4-42, so I have a feeling it's a service issue. This along with my park tilt mirror problem and over-sensitive dimming mirrors are on my list for the technicians to look at when I can get it to the dealer.

Thanks for your replies. At least now I know others are having the same experience.

Let us know what the technicians at the dealer find out.

You would think that the temperature at which the heated (and/or cooled) seats turn on would be some default setting, which the user could change via the Config menu. Some people (post above) would like them to turn on at -10F, others at 40F...

Re: Heated Seats & Remote Start

Just tested mine. Heated seats didn't come on, but it was only 45 degrees, so I don't know if that was an adequate test. If it has to be below freezing to activate this, that's really stupid. You don't have to have ice cycles hanging from your chin to want the heated seats on.

Mystery of the Heated Seats Solved!!!

Ok, here's the deal. This is direct from my Service Manager via Cadillac Techline. When using remote start, the heated seats come on when it's 50 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. However, the red LEDs on the button do "not" come on. After a remote start, get in the car. You'll feel the heat. If you just touch the seats with your hand, you'll barely feel the heat. This is because there is a thick layer of padding between the seating surface and the heating element. Your body weight is required to compress the padding sufficiently to feel the heat. The heated seats have a 20 min. cycle. After that, you'll need to manually turn them back on again if you like. Funny thing is I just used the remote start today and noticed that the seats heated up. I thought it was strange that the button wasn't lit. As soon as I noticed this, my Service Manager called with this info.

The defroster should also come on if this is set in the "Configuration" menu. The heater comes on to whatever you had it set to when the car was turned off.

Excellent information. Thanks for finding this out, now I don't have to make a special trip to the dealer.

Anyway, It's 42F outside, so I did the remote start and let it run for 7 minutes. Sure enough, there was no indicator lit, the seat was not warm to the touch, but after sitting on it, I could tell it was being heated. The 2 times I have used the remote start in the cold, it had only been running for maybe 2-3 minutes and I didn't feel "heat" in the seat and manually turned it on. It's odd that the engineers decided not to light the indicators, but I'm satisfied with the outcome. Thanks again Sube.

You're quite welcome. Yeah, I told my Service Manager the same thing. What were they thinking when they decided "not" to have the LEDs lit? It wouldn't be so bad if they'd bothered to tell us this in the manual. Anyway, my SM was happy to learn this, as he's certain to receive more inquiries on this topic in the future.
