With both my STS-V and my aftermarket remote start on my Grand Cherokee, you can push the remote start button on the fob after parking (before turning off the car), and this will put the car into a "remote start" mode, where you can take your key out and it acts just like it does during a remote start... Runs for 10 minutes from that point in time and if someone trys to shit gears without putting in the key or pushing the start button (need to have key fob in possession), the car will turn off. Pretty sure the SRX should have this feature also.

Don't bother with the remote feature. Just leave the key fob with people and don't worry about it. I take my STS to the car wash all the time and trust the people who work there. The place I take my car to is used the washing high end cars as they are in a very weatlhy area. They do a great job.
