Just got the SRX, got some questions...

Well, Saturday, my wife wanted to go in and test drive an SRX. We have a base model 2004 BMW X3 right now, and wanted something a little nicer with a few more amenities.

We got a pearl white, AWD, Luxary Collection with upgraded bose stereo and rear seat infotainment system.

I am still trying to figure this thing out, and with all of the options, the new car seems to be getting the better of me. I have read the manual front to back.

First off, what is up with the voice commands? Can you use that to dial the phone? I am confused if the bluetooth phone integration is through the onstar system as it says "Onstar Bluetooth System" or something similar at the top of the nav screen when pairing a phone.

Second question... most DVDs have questions that are asked before starting play back. LIke "Widescreen" or "Normal Screen" and must be selected before the movie starts. How can I select those using the touch screen? Can I listen to the radio over the main speakers while a movie is playing in the rear?

The alarm system. Do you physically have to open a door to set it off? I live in Chicago and would prefer that somebody can't smash my window and steal the nav system and monitors, which can be done without opening the doors. Is there an add on for a motion detector to the existing system?

    Thanks -Jake

You can pair your cellphone via bluetooth to the SRX, or you can just use the Onstar phone, or both...
We have both of our phones paired, and whoever uses the car, the phone is automatically connected. If you forget your phone it will then use the Onstar phone.
Yes, voice commands can be used to dial your phone. Press the voice command button on the steering wheel, say "handsfree" it should respond ready, say dial and just say the numbers, or you can add voice tags to stored numbers, and then you can just say "call home" or whatever the tag name is...

To add on to larryk's post...

Once you pair your bluetooth phone to the system, it will connect as soon as the SRX is powered up.

You can listen to any audio source through the cabin speakers while the rear seaters are enjoing the DVD (or other audio source)

As for the DVD navigation menus - you will need to use the remote control for that. And it must be done from the rear seats since the IR receiver is located on the back of the driver's seat.

    Enjoy your new SRX!

Re: Just got the SRX, got some questions...

    I have a 2004 SRX, can someone do me a favor and try this test with the Onstar HandsFree phone using voice commands;

Can someone try to see if the voice commands recognize *82 for Private Numbers?

    Thanks
    Al

Sorry, I don't use the on-star handsfree system since I use the bluetooth through my own cell phone.

If you touch "Cursor" it allows you to use the Menu/Select knob to move up and down on the Options screen of a movie. Once the option you want is highlighted, push the same knob to select.

Yes, you can listen to a different source over the main speakers. Rear passengers will hear the movie using the included wireless headphones. They can also use the remote control to skip ahead, back, pause, etc. The remote control should be in the same box that the headphones came in. You can even watch a movie on one of the rear monitors while the other monitor plays video from an input source, like a video game or iPod. The "yellow" jack on the monitor is for video input.
