    Chrome tech replacement?

    Good morning,
First post on this forum, but not new to forums. My husband and I just bought a new red srx fwd on Fri. Put almost 1000 miles on it this weekend on an out-of-state weekend we had planned. He is a little anal about keeping our cars clean, so insisted on taking the new srx through a car-wash. No problem till he rubbed against the rail that guides the wheels and marred one of the "chrome tech" wheel covers. Can anyone guide me to a source for a replacement? If I have to, I would possibly consider a new set of 4, I'm sure this will not be the last incident.
    Thanks Sue

    Re: Chrome tech replacement?

If I'm not mistaken, the Chrome Tech covers are actually glued to the alloy wheel underneath, which would make replacing just the cover difficult (if not impossible).

I'll check with my parts dept and let you know.

    Re: Chrome tech replacement?

Just checked, and the Chrome Tech cover is not listed separately in the parts catalog- they can only be ordered already attached to the wheel. GM list price on the Chrome Tech 20" is $570 per wheel. A more cost effective solution might be to take the vehicle to a shop that specializes in chrome plating, such as a motorcycle aftermarket shop. They could probably bead blast the chrome off the wheel and re-chrome it for less than replacing the wheel.

    Hope that helps.

    Re: Chrome tech replacement?

We had a man come through our dealership and demo an SRX about 3-4 months ago and he told us one of the advantages of the Chrome Tech wheels was that you could order the chrome piece separately instead of the whole wheel if it gets damaged. Well one of our customers bought an SRX and the wheel got damaged and GM doesn't offer the piece separate like Tony already said. Had to order the whole wheel under warranty... yikes!

Thanks for the answers guys. I just came from the dealer--not good. God my husband costs me money. Looks like I'll wait till spring for a replacement. I think he is going to be a passenger from now on.

    Suzers,

Tell your husband if he wants to be anal, he should "hand wash" from now on. My sister had a wheel BENT in one of those automatic car washes....yikes!

He normally does nothing but hand-wash our cars, but we were out of town. I know he would never take our Corvette through anything automated.

Good news Sue. These are actually cheaper than expected at the below link.

    Buy them here for $275.18:

Here they are at the list price of $378 each, but it looks like they're only selling them as a set of four. This may account for the $570 individual price you were originally quoted.

Sube, I'm not sure where you got you numbers, But I went to
gmpartsdirect.com, she would need a P47 rim which is $349.76.
With shipping & core charge the total is $476.71

    Re: Chrome tech replacement?

Neither of these links seem to be working now. I went to the link below and got the part no. Then I entered that part no. in the GM Parts Direct website. Now it seems they only let you purchase the set of four as well. Oh well, I tried.
