Ripping CD's To The Hard Drive

Does anyone know what Bitrate the SRX audio system rips CD's at? Can't find anything in the owner's manual that covers this. I'm thinking it's probably not 320 KBPS because they'd take up too much space on the hard drive. If I had to guess, I'd say it's probably a compromise like 192 KBPS. For maximum audio quality I plan to rip CD's to my computer at 320, then record them to the hard drive via a thumb drive. That way, the system won't be converting the tracks from WAV to MP3. It should just record them to the hard drive at their existing Bitrate.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Re: Ripping CD's To The Hard Drive

I have uploaded music to the HDD three ways. Using original CD's purchased. Using the USB drive that has MP3's copied to it. Using CD's that I have burned at various bit rates. All I can say is that they all play well and sound great on the Bose system. The HDD does have some type of skipping effect sometimes when first used. It's random so far with no pattern to it.

I didn't experience any skipping with the model I test drove. I had it for two days and used the audio system extensively. I played MP3's directly off of a thumb drive and recorded the same MP3's to the hard drive. All played flawlessly.

    Tell me more...
I have a problem playing from the HDD or USB when you first start driving, then it clears up after about five minutes. It sounds exactly like a CD skipping, but it is not in the original.

    larryK:

My issue sounds VERY similar. It does not happen everytime as of yet, so I am unsure if it will be a recurring problem. I do not use the USB to play from. Only to transfer a few new tracks on to the HDD.

I certainly hope that the skipping does not become chronic. It is almost like the head or optical reader realigns itself sometimes. I doubt that unless it totally goes out that it can be trouble shoot. Again, for me it is very random but always at first time start up.

    mw1862 & larryk,

When did you take possession of your SRXs? Just curious to know if this problem is only with earlier versions.

Do you mean when you first start to play music from your HDD, when you first start the vehicle or when you first start to drive off?

    Please explain.

I took possession on 9/1/09, so mine is an early one.

When first starting to drive off, after you have been driving a few minutes it plays just fine. My problem is common to the HDD and USB.
My dealer is waiting for a response from Cadillac Techline...

OK. I pick mine up from the dealer this evening. I'll be sure to test for this problem. I'll post the results here. Please keep me posted as to the response from Techline.

Re: Ripping CD's To The Hard Drive

I picked mine up on 10-25-09. As stated in the previous reply, this happens when FIRST driving off and quickly corrects itself. So far it only happens ONCE, does not occur again until the FIRST drive of the next day, sometimes...

Not an issue for me unless it worsens or goes out completely.
Enjoy your SRX! The technology is amazing...
