    2.8L Turbo...Still Waiting

Anybody out there waiting to test drive the 2.8L Turbo? I'm not crazy about the fact that it requires premium fuel, but I'm worried about the reported poor acceleration with the 3.0 engine. Can anyone comment on the torque of the standard engine? Is it adequate? What about fully loaded with 4 or 5 occupants and luggage?

    Re: 2.8L Turbo...Still Waiting

Apparently, Motor Trend was unimpressed with the 2.8L Turbo...

So, with all of these significant changes, how does Caddy's top-step SRX 2.8 turbo fare in the hotly contested midsize-luxury SUV field?

Not particularly well in terms of acceleration performance. Even with 300 turbocharged horses, the SRX takes 7.6 seconds to hit 60 mph and 15.9 seconds to cover a quarter mile, which is exceptionally mediocre. The Audi Q5 3.2 quattro, Lexus RX 350 AWD, Mercedes-Benz GLK 4matic, and Volvo XC60 T6 are all significantly quicker. Braking performance is more in line with the pack; the SRX's 13.6-inch front and 12.4-inch rear discs help haul it to a stop in 128 feet.

As for the "poor acceleration" with the 3.0...pffffffffffft. Not so, IMO. It's quite acceptable as a non-performance vehicle.

So which SRX do you have, the FWD or the AWD?

    Re: 2.8L Turbo...Still Waiting

Most magazine writers test vehicles with the trans in the standard "economy" mode. STS-V tests were off by about .5 seconds in the 0-60 test, and I'll bet the reason why is that they didn't move the shifter over into the "sport" shift setting that provides better acceleration.

Having driven the SRX numerous times, I can tell you with confidence that while the instrumented tests show a less than average 0-60 time, the vehicle is plenty peppy and quick for most drivers, especially if driven in the sport mode.

Especially when driven in Sport Mode. People forget there is a whole 'nother side...

I'm no longer waiting for the 2.8L Turbo. Test drove the 3.0 and I'm perfectly satisfied, especially considering there's a "Sport" mode.

Do you know if the Turbo is still going to have "'Sport" mode? Just curious.

I guess we all feel different!
    I came from CTS-V with 556 HP & I'm just fine with 3.0 engine.

Way I see it is what good are these high performance cars when 9-10 times can't use it.
All I know is I'm thrilled that I'm not in the gas station every couple days like I was before!

Here is a link to an LA Times article about the 2010 SRX Turbo. The author is not real impressed....
