I'm still amused at how Cadillac hid the 2010 SRX in plain sight

Remember all the threads around the Internet about a year ago that showed camouflaged SRXs? Everyone speculated on how it was going to look, the size, the interior, etc, and yet no one realized that Cadillac has had the thing hidden in plain sight since the Detroit Auto Show in January 2008.

I was there with a few other forum members, and snapped a few photos of the PROVOQ fuel cell concept. Look familiar?

This isn't like the EVOQ to XLR transformation, where only the general shape remained- that's practically production tooling sitting there on the show floor almost two years ago. The headlights, the light pipes, the door and fender stamping.....everything except a few small tweaks to the front fascia.

Here's some other pictures from Auto web sites of the PROVOQ. Even the interior, down to the door handles, dash panels and gauges is virtually unchanged.

I don't know what to believe. Did someone incredibly brave get a concept car turned into a production vehicle with practically no changes, or did they disguise a production vehicle a concept?

Either way, it's funny that everyone wildly speculated on how the vehicle would look, yet it had been sitting there on a show floor and plastered all over the Internet for a year and a half.

Hidden in 'plain site'.......................brilliant. (and I mean that in a good way)

And I'm hoping there hiding the Converj the same way...........................maybe the new 'ATS'. (it's a thought)

Hmmm, I don't know about hiding. Every website I saw said it was going to be the SRX replacement (and Cadillac even said so). However, at the time it was assumed the SRX name was going to die and they were going to name it something new (a popular guess was the BRX) since it was FWD. Here is the Motortrend article from Jan 8, 2008:

They guessed in reality it would have the 3.6 SIDI. Too bad that didn't come true

As for the Converj, it is based off the Voltech platform and was green lit, then canceled w/ bankruptcy, then rumored to be back on, so I'm not sure on that. Motortrend has some sketches this month of the ATS from a media day at GM when they were allowed to look at it. They were not allowed to take pictures, but they had their artists draw what they saw. I didn't see it online, but if you see a motortrend on the newsstand, it is near the beginning along with a few other upcoming GM cars.

I thought the same. I remember seeing it sitting just out of Cadillac's big guns and thinking that's a nice looking replacement for the SRX...
