Question Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

Hi everybody. I have just taken delivery of a new (was a demo) 2006 SRX Brought it into Canada from Arizona). I am trying to program the UHR but the manual says to hold down the two outer buttons for 20 seconds or until the light starts flashing. The light never starts flashing....any ideas.

What a great site! If anybody needs any info on bringing in a car from the States I will be only too happy to help. It is not tough but you need to jump through some hoops.

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

It has been a long time since I did the programming. Which are the two outside buttons? The two on the right or the two on the left? Have you tried it both ways?On second thought I guess it means button one and button three.
And welcome aboard.

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

First thing is to determine if you have a digital rolling code opener or the older style with dip switches after you have pulled the car out of the garage.
You most likely have the newer type (probably made after 1992), look for the learn or smart button on your opener. It will likely be located near the wire antenna that is hanging down from the opener. Mine was accessed by opening the cover over the light. Some are found on the rear of the unit. Press the #1 and #3 buttons on the visor control for a couple of seconds then quickly go to opener and press the learn or smart button which will light. Within the next 30 seconds press and hold the desired visor control button. It will began to flash as it searches for the code. Be aware that the small light isn't very bright and may need to be shaded with your free hand to see well. Hold the button until the door moves (this might take 20 or 30 seconds). At that instant release the button. The light on the visor control button will flash quickly indicating a learned code. Press the selected button and the door should function. Good Luck! It may be helpful to have a second person to assist in this process.

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

The problem may be more fundamental than a programming issue.

We had a huge problem with the openers on both garage doors when we moved into our new house here in PA. The garage doors would suddenly open on their own. That wasn't very comforting!!

After many frustrating analyses by the door opener specialists they determined that my openers were picking up stray signals from a nearby college electronics laboratory. The solution was to replace the boards in the openers with Canadian boards, which operate on a different frequency than the standard ones used in the US.

Problem solved but then I was never able to get the Universals in any of our cars to work. So we just use the visor clip-ons and forgot the universals.

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

So, if I am understanding everything right....the US and Canada use different frequencies for the garage door openers.

OLDMAN137, just imported a car from the US to Canada.....
which means his CAR is using the frequency for the US...
and his GARAGE DOOR OPENER is using the frequency for CANADA.

If all that is true...then his HOMELINK will never work on his Canadien garage doors unless it could be reprogramed by the dealer with a TECH ll

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

Our 2005 SRX N*V8 with Homelink operates (in CA) as noted in the car manual. We had to use the procedure for the first unit, but the second and third only required holding the button while activating the corresponding remote.
We have one very old door opener that uses the old (mid 70s) Chamberlain system/ frequency that you can no longer buy replacement remotes for; but the Homelink operates it perfectly. Also, we open one door with a similar age Genie opener and another with a year old rolling code unit; all three work as advertised.
Good luck!!

Re: Universal Home Remote - 2006 SRX

Okay.....let me take a shot at this. I have an 07 American SRX in Canada and my home link works fine. I also previously had an 04 American SRX in Canada and the home link worked fine in it as well.

First off we have to find out which one (there are two) that your car is equipped with. On the drivers side sun visor there are 3 buttons.....above the buttons there are either 3 led lights (one above each button) or one led (triangular) above the center button.

Check out your lay out and if the 06 is the same then get back to me and I will walk you through the set up rather than typing out both sets of instructions as they are quite long.
