Sorry--didn't pay attention to your location.
As for the location zone, you'd best contact GM Europe. They should have forseen that and supplied a zone 2 player.
However, in GM's defense, the NAV radio's prime purpose is not as a DVD movie player.
Good luck---I believe you'll need it for this one! |

This "feature" greatly reduces my Nav system's usefulness--especially on road trips. My passenger (or even the driver if they are being careful) SHOULD be allowed to change routes or add waypoints while the vehicle is in motion. For example, on road trips, we constantly need to find gas stations, maybe stop at a State Park, or find restaurants to eat at. Drivers can legally put on make-up, talk on the phone and fiddle with radio stations, but it's unsafe for my passenger to search for a StarBuck's? Arghhhh!!! |

I just drove around watching a DVD. My wife and I can now see what my kids see. Thank you so much Joe! The "hack" to do this on my wife's car (Acura TL) costed me ~$800! (converter alone costed $500 + DVD player+ install)
On the other hand, I feel this "code" can dangerous in the hands of irresponsible drivers. It's so easy to do, it's scary. I think the code should be taken down and the people that know it should be very careful about sharing it. We wouldn't want everybody and their mother driving around watching DVDs. Quote: |

Ok, so I checked my other home mad dvd-r discs and can answer my own question. About 50% of them work. There are many variables such as software used to make the discs, whether or not I created a menu and disc type - but be assured that the DVD player does read some home-made dvd discs... if anyone cares. |
I have a backup library of all my kid's DVD in the car, and they all work fine in the rear DVD player, but as you found out, some of those disks are not recognized by the front DVD player. I am using a Lite-On 4X burner, DVDShrink encoder, RecordNow burning software, and using Ritek G04 DVD-R's (I hear Riteks have the best DVD player compatibility). The limited testing I've done also shows about 50% readability. I'll tweak my setup to see if I can do better (maybe burn at 1X using Nero, etc.)

Are you saying that you can see what is already playing on the rear seat DVD system? Or do you mean that you are playing a DVD in the front/nav system only? I'm confused. Thanks in advance for clarifying! |

Thanks in advance for clarifying! | Sorry for the ambiguity. No, I can't see what's playing in the rear DVD player on the front nav screen. But now, I can play a DVD in the front DVD player and have it displayed on the both screens while the car's in motion. That's what I meant.
I wonder if there's a way to play a DVD in the rear player and have it show up on both screens. The rear player seems more compatible to home-made DVDs. |

Software could also be the culprit - from what I hear Alcohol 120% and Ahead Nero seem to work best. Both +R and -R work at about a 50% clip (3 out of 6 of my Memorex +R worked, 2-4 of my Memorex -R worked and 2-3 of my Imation -R worked)... I'll need to check out some other brands (TDK perhaps? heard good things about them and home DVD players)...
Still, all things considered it's not too bad. Even some recent home DVD players don't always recognize dvd-r's and I doubt that was high on the list of priorites when the NAV system was designed.
Finally, I certainly would not advise anyone to watch DVD movies while driving. It is a great option for Live Concert dvd's though. |

I do think it's silly that you can zoom in/out, scroll around and turn on/off the POI icons but are locked out from other options. |

I've been trying to find an output selection option from the front DVD, but you are saying to choose the input source from the RSE itself. As you can probably tell, I've only touched the RSE once (just to make sure it played a DVD), and I don't read manuals. Thanks! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
