Entering 1791 keeps you at the PIN screen while other combinations, presumedly wrong, kick you back to the map screen.

I don't see any difference after going into the diagnostics mode. Maybe it just keeps track of something to be output later for diagnosis? Or is there something I'm missing?

Re: Navigation system malfunction?

You may want to think of the other possible uses for the nav system. However, it may not be too legal.

Re: Navigation system malfunction?

I Don't have a nav system but this threads "who Dunnit" flavor has me hooked. Can we start to guess? I think an illegal use of a nav system in the front seat would be to play a movie DVD after entering the magic PIN.

All I want is a way to disable the nav system's "safety" features (like you can on most nav systems) so I can change routes while driving. One of these "safeties" is the aforementioned ability to watch a DVD while moving. But I think this is illegal only in a few states, right? Anyone tried to play a DVD while the vehicle is moving after entering our 1791 PIN? Hmmmmm...

Well, folks, I think Joe told up all he "thinks" he can legally say.

As I don't have my SRX yet, someone please let us know if it works.

Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and in Washington DC so I doubt that is it.

Re: Navigation system malfunction?

Paul---WAKE UP! He's told us it'll play DVD's in gear. Besides, radar detection takes a receiver.

John Doe needs to protect his A--!

Can someone double check it?

Re: Navigation system malfunction?

So I drove the SRX today while watching a DVD. Yes, that's what the diagnostics mode allows. No, I didn't break any laws - I was simply going up and down my driveway.

Now there is the problem of the Navigation menu. It still cannot be accessed while the vehicle is in motion - so one can't change from 2d to 3d view until the vehicle comes to a stop. Bummer. Any way to circumvent this?

Now, another question - has anyone tried playing their home made dvd discs? I tried my archived home movies (burned with a Sony DVD burner on Imation DVD+R and Memorex DVD-R discs) with no luck. While the disc was read and audio clear - the picture would keep scrolling from top to bottom. Maybe just incompatible disc or mode? Anyone?

Ok, so I checked my other home mad dvd-r discs and can answer my own question. About 50% of them work. There are many variables such as software used to make the discs, whether or not I created a menu and disc type - but be assured that the DVD player does read some home-made dvd discs... if anyone cares.
