    Same Size Tires on AWD

I've just noticed that I've been running the same size tire all the way around on my AWD V6. What are the long-term implications of this? I've owned it for about 2 years and put about 20K on it.

Re: Same Size Tires on AWD

The answer to your question depends on the size of rim you have. Sport package comes with 20" rims which use the same tire sizes all around. If you have 18" rims, there are normally different sizes for front and back. Things to consider are: tire rotation, tire pressure monitoring system, effects on handling, stabilitrak and ABS. I have heard of others doing the same thing and don't think there is any ill effect, however, the vehicle was not designed for it.

I've had 265/35/22 on all 4 since I bought it put over 45k miles on them with even wear still had 75% tread left. 3.6 awd rotate and balance every 3k miles for me.

I've run 4 same size Blizzaks (17s) for 5 winters, now I'm running 4 same size Ecopias for summer on my 2004 awd.

I also switched to 4 same size 18" tires after getting quotes of$1400+ for 2 size Michelins. Put a set of Hankooks in the rear size at half the price and handling and traction are great. Did this about 30k ago with no problems. The dealer told me I couldn't do it but after talking with tech dept. at Tire Rack they said there would be no problem. Handling is better and I now can rotate tires. A win-win switch!! 2004 V-8 AWD SRX

Let's hand them the "real men of genius" award.

    235/65-17 revs per mile = 719
    255/60-17 revs per mile = 719

Thanks for all the replies. Not sure why Cadillac put different size tires on the front and back if they're the same diameter, but I'll stick with the same size.

I've been running 255-50-20's at both ends on aftermarket rims since 2011. Put 35,ooo miles on them with no problems.
Handling is good and stopping distance cut measurably .RPM's @ 65 mph dropped below 1900.

If stopping distance was cut measurably then please post how much it was cut by.

Just so you guys know the front tires are as wide as the rear in the staggered size, you guys know that right?

what size are you running? 235/60/18 or 255/55/18? Does it make a difference?

Does not matter, most go to the bigger size.

I am not one to wait till things are "used up" to get what I want so I am of no help.

I went to 255/55/18 Toyo's on all 4 corners. The wide tires from the rear looks so much better IMO than the 235's, but I don't think it matters at all. Personal preference is what it comes down to.

255/55/18 I went with the larger size for better traction in snow. If you don't deal with snow I guess you could go with smaller size to save some money. Both have the same circumference so it shouldn't affect your speedo.
