Has anyone ever tried to separate the headlight lens from the assembly? My wife's 04 SRX keeps getting water inside the assembly. I've reconditioned the outside once but they're faded again due to the water/moisture inside :crying2:
I know it's been done on other vehicles, I just wonder if it can be done on these as well?
I haven't.....yet. But I've been tossing the idea around too. I need to restore the outer lense as well but I was thinking of just taking it apart and even painting the chrome to black and clean the projector lenses and such. I've baked plenty of headlights in the past on most of my previous vehicles, so I figure why not try these too? I'd just hate to ruin my wife's headlights and have to fork out a few hundred a piece for them!!
Found some aftermarket replacements on ebay for $500 for a pair...not a bad deal if they fit/work properly. I want to take these apart though and see if I can refinish them.
If they are Permaseal then it is a bit of a pain but can be done, last set I did the oven was about 300ish and I just let them cook then get some gloves on and some pry tools and go to town.
If they are butyl just cook them for a bit and the lens just peels off.
Bought the car with 2 HID lights, one was clear and the other was yellow, we didn't bother cleaning it, just bought a new clear HID for 300$. We also sold the old light for 200$ which helped pay for the new one.
