And who carries a $100 deductible anymore?

Safety glass is covered by your comprehensive policy and in many states as a required safety item it is replaced without deductible regardless of the deductible level of your policy.

    Re: Shattered Ultra-View

jeteye.......although this is a very old thread, you are correct about the comprehensive coverage (regardless of the deductible amount). One might be inclined to just get the glass replaced at a reputable glass shop and give up on the dealer approach. But the source these shops use for replacement glass is....?

And if it were me, I would be haunted by the thought it might happen again with worse results......to me, my wife, the grandchildren, or another passenger. It would take some time before that fear subsided and I finally wrote the matter off as just a quirk.

That is a lot of glass sitting just inches above everyone's heads.

    AngryRear Roof glass exploded

What is it with American cars and 100,000 miles. My wife called me and said she was just sitting at a stop light and BOOM!!! The rear roof glass exploded. No reason ... just boom!

In the last two weeks since turning 100K miles had the following fail ... some maintenance some not

    - Cat on drivers side failed
    - ECM blew up
    - alternator died
    - rear roof exploded
    - battery died from alt
    - auto shifter linkage replaced
    - oil sensor leak

    maint items

    - spark plugs
    - belts
    - tranny fluid
    - rear diff fluid

This car was a great car right up until 100K then it literally is self destructing.

Think of the SRX as a expensive paper weight, a stone that needs no parts but was so badly designed by a higher level. Gm would have designed a dinosaur with 10 legs when it only needed 2

If you think it's an American car thing type "exploding sunroof" in google and get a rude awakening.

Re: Anyone else's sunroof explode out of nowhere?

My 2008 Cadillac SRX was parked in my driveway and the panaromic sunroof exploded into a million pieces. Their was nothing in the car that dropped from the sky. GM should look into this and recall the glass. Just got the car back and now the sunroof whistles at 70mph. Not happy.

Re: Anyone else's sunroof explode out of nowhere?

One thing that people are overlooking here is that most glass surfaces are under tension. When you bend glass while it is being formed, when you heat melt it and cool it, it will cool with tension built into it. I would suggest you would have to be a bit unlucky or have poorer quality glass, but any pane of this type can break under its own tension.
