Major concerns for my 04 SRX

Hello and this is my first time in this forum. I'm hoping that someone or somebodies can can answer my questions about mechanical issues with my 04 SRX. For starters, I recently had the cross over pipe and gasket replace about 2 weeks ago. This past Thursday, apparently my power steering went out. Had it towed back to the mechanic shop that last serviced my car on Friday. They call me the next day, Saturday, and say I'll need a whole new engine. BECAUSE, the power steering pump broke in such a way that it broke the tension pulley attached to the engine block. SO... I ask, can this really really be possible? Needing help in San Antonio, TX.

I suppose anything is possible when it comes to failures. Unless you have a high degree of trust in this mech, I'd advise a second opinion. At the very least, before authorizing a hugely expensive repair, have them show you the physical damage, maybe get a pic to post here.

The block is aluminum.. and it can be welded... Broken mount holes can be repaired by a good welder... Although not cheap, it is a lot cheaper then replacing the entire engine.
