    Question Adding Lights/Light Bar?

2006 SRX, have HID headlights and stock fog lights, but wondering if anyone has attempted or has a suggestion on adding some bright auxiliary lights, some spot lights or an LED light bar for example. Would be really useful for rural driving without city lights, camping, any situation some mobile lighting would be in order.

Any suggestions on where to mount, how much power there is to work with/draw (would only be used with the engine running), how to wire up/get a switch into the cab, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

I had hid low and high beams plus fog lights. Never needed any extra light. Plus a light bar or extra fog lights would ruin the appearance of the truck.

They don't make any specific light bar or spotlight for the SRX but you could buy a generic one and modify it to fit the car or have a local body shop figure something out for you, and I agree it may look funny. You can use the power from the battery, if your good at wiring you can do it by yourself with a little research. Please add pics if you decide to do this, who knows it may look alright.

    Re: Adding Lights/Light Bar?

I'm thinking maybe a light bar or something that could shine through the front grill (either the upper grill, between the headlights, or the lower, between the fog lights)? There seems to be some mounting room in there. Or possibly mounted somehow to the stock rails on the roof. Or you could have it hang underneath the bumper on the front (if it was a skinny light bar). Or, if you were really bold, mounted straight to the hood or the roof (would be a solid mounting, but the most invasive modifications to the body). So there you go, several options right off the bat. Was wondering if someone maybe had done, seen, or heard of something proven before though..

You would have to modify / destroy the grill on the car for that to work.
You could do the roof between the roof rack rails ... depending on how much you want to spend this place has various length "off-road" LED light bars.

"The 40" X.BAR Uses 20 LED's to produce 24000 Lumens while consuming only 200W of power. Some of the most popular comparable bars on the market use 80 LED's to produce less than 23000 lumens while consuming 260W of power."

    Neat site, thanks.

I'm not sure about "destroy" the grill - it looks like there are big enough openings in the lower grill for it to shine through. You would just need to find a way to mount (could screw through the bottom of the grill, wouldn't be noticeable, as long as the bumper was rigid enough).

The roof rack rails would be neat, if you put a bar between the 2 and mounted the lights to that. But how would you get the wiring into the car? Would you run it down the rail, over to the nav antennae on the top of the rear, and down inside with that? I guess you could go hick and just run it through the passenger's window.

You can probably find some output shots for their various products on www.hidplanet.com in the forums there is a section for the TRS products.
I'd mount it to the roof bars and wiring down into the hatch or roof via the second moonroof or 3rd brake light wiring.
Get two and mount one off the back and add that to the reverse lights.

    "output shots"

Don't have a moonroof unfortunately - and how would you wire down with the 3rd brake light? From the outside isn't it a sealed unit? The wires are back behind the lights.

Oh, like photos of lighting improvements for comparison?

Yeah, so you can see how much light is added / what color it is / etc...
Their LED lineup is rather new but they have been doing HIDs for a long time and they are known for cost effective and reliable quality gear.

In my mind the entire assembly would come off and then there would be holes in the hatch metal for the brake light wiring to go down into the car and you could simply send your wires down the same hole and then put the brake light back on ... but thinking more about that it would end up on the hatch side so that probably wouldn't work out well.
The sat antenna hole or somehow into the hatch area are probably the best locations based on your model SRX.

    ----------

Found a shot of their old 42" LED bar (from 2012 it was 16,000 lumens): .... I can only imagine that their newer lineup is even better.

This is likely another photo of it but Facebook is having an issue with this photo it would seem.
