    2006 SRX Timing chains

Replaced the timing chains at about 55000 miles (at the dealer). Starting to make noise again at 90000 miles. But now the SRX is out of warranty. Anybody have any thoughts about Cadillac footing the bill. I have heard that this is a very common issue.
Also have a 2005 CTS-V that just broke a valve spring and dropped a valve. 87000 miles on the V. Needless to say, not real impressed with Cadillac right now.

Highly doubt they will after the warranty expires I've tried. 07 and up had a special extended warranty on just the chains but the issue goes back 5o the first year of the srx. Sucks they decided only 07 and up had the issue. Pretty much you will be paying out of pocket for the repair.

yeah I got lucky and had mine done twice under warranty. The first time the quality of the replacement chains wasn't much better than the factory chains. Hope they finally got a vendor and chain that lasts 200K like they should.

    Hello jwright,

I apologize that you are experiencing these issues with your CTS-V and SRX. I cannot guarantee any assistance would be available, but I would be more than happy to look into the situation for you. I would need you to private message me your name, contact info, VIN, mileage, and dealership you have been working with. If you are unable to private message me, you can also reach out to me at socialmedia@gm.com with the subject line as “ATTN GREG” so it gets delivered straight to me. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

I also find it interesting that the chain warranty only covers the later years. My '08 has the 4TH DESIGH ITERATION of the chains, so there was obviously something going on earlier; and apparently didn't get totally fixed after 4 tries. I guess it's possible that the newer parts are not backwards-compatible with the earlier engines in some way, so GM has no parts to repair the earlier ones?? Naaaaa.
That being said, though, my '08 exhibits no problem at 78k miles; but just to be safe I change the Mobil 1 at 5k, and check it/top it off when it gets a pint low.

You should go back and have them replace them at no cost. Since they were installed by the dealer, they should have lasted MUCH longer than 35000 miles. This is provided the vehicle upkeep (oil level etc) was done properly. I think you have some recourse to go back to them. First question: how long should a timing chain last?

Timing chains ARE NOT DESIGNED TO HAVE A LIFE EXPECTANCY. They should last as long as the engine but for these engines they simply just don't last long. An older Chevy 350 Timing chain Will out last these new cadillac chains any day.

    Hello Professor Wizard,

I am sorry to hear that your SRX needed to have the timing chain replaced at 35,000 miles, but I am happy to hear that you have not had problems since it has been replaced. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to Laura or myself if you have any questions or concerns.
