2004 SRX won't accelerate, service vehicle soon, no codes, turn off and back on runs
I will try to start at the beginning, I first started having problems with the car not accelerating and searching for idle about a year ago. It had a code for the throttle body, which has been replaced and ran fine for a few months. The car then got rattle in the rear catalytic converter and it had a service engine soon light on, so I had a local shop replace the rear catalytic converter, and after I got the car back I still had a code for low catalyst bank #2. Come to find out the rattle in the rear converter was from the catalyst that had blown out of the left converter. I replaced the left converter a couple of weeks ago and for the first time in over a year I don't have a light on, on the dash.
The problem is the vehicle still goes into, what acts like a limp in mode on occasion (like once a week). It doesn't seem like there is a common set of circumstance that set it off. I have not been in the car yet when this happens, but I have tried to drill my wife as to what is actually happening, and I think after a month of questions, I can post a legitimate description of what is going on.
The car has plenty of power when it isn't acting up, but she will be driving and the car just won't accelerate, says it won't go over 20 mph. she turns the key off restarts the car and it is good for another week or so. When this happens the information center says "service vehicle soon" but there are no codes that set the service engine soon light off on the dash.
Should I have a service center with a GM scanner, scan the vehicle? I am using an inexpensive vehicle scanner that is unable to check all systems on the car. But again I'm not getting a light on my dash.
