    Strut tower hole see pictures

My wife and I both drive SRXs. She has a gold coloured 2004, mine is a black 2009. The issue is a heavy suspension knocking sound driving over choppy pavement with the 2009. I have had the Cadillac dealer attempt two fixes including replacing the Passenger side strut all under warranty with no success. (the basic warranty has now expired, 88,000KM). I had an independent garage road test and examine the suspension giving it a clean bill of health. Still the knocking on choppy pavement continues. Its slowly driving me nuts. Looking under the hood I noticed what I think is a missing bolt or plug on the passenger side strut tower. The hole is shown in the centre of the picture. The second picture shows the 2004 gold srx passenger side strut tower for reference. What is missing from the hole and could it be causing my issue??

    Thanks for your input.

There are plastic guide pins (dowels) for lining up the strut when it's raised up into the tower - this is an assembly aid. You can see your 04 has both and one is missing on the 09. I don't think that's a possible cause of your problem, because once the bolts are in, it's all clamped up tight at that joint. Wish I had some brilliance to offer on your problem, if two different shops couldn't find it, I don't have any wisdom.

I think it might be coming from the bottom of the car. End links?

I thought as much given the plastic plugs. But I'm basically at a dead end. You would think its a real klunker if you drove it especially against my 2004 model which exhibits no noises from the front end on the same roads. I need to find a good suspension specialty shop and let them have at it. I'll suggest looking at the swaybar links. Thanks for the info.

Check lower control arm bushings and sway bar mounting bushings.

Yeah def check those. I've done through 3 sets in 2 years and now need my 4th set. They've lasted me almost exactly 12k which is all the dealers warranties out here.
