    Persistent steering wheel shimmy

2008 SRX V6 RWD. Bought the car 12/2010 with 22K miles. Had a shimmy in the steering wheel. Replaced 4 tires, went away for about 1000 miles while but returned. Has done the same with 3 sets of tires. Rebalancing helps for a while (500-1000 miles) but problem returns. Starts at about 60 MPH goes away about 75.
    Any help appreciated.

Alignment; rotor runout; wheel runout/balance; try on-car balance; check for loose rack, worn ends.

Are they aftermarket wheels? From past experience it may be a balance issue, when they put the counter weights on, they may come off or they may have not put them in the "sweet spot", some use the sticky tape weights, some use the clip on weights

Jack - I have had the same issue with my 07 v8 rwd. It started after I put 4 new continental tires on back in May 2012, stock 18 inch wheels. Cadillac never could fix it with their balance machine. Warrantied 2 tires, came back again, continental agreed to warranty another 2, but I never got them.

After weeks of back and forth calls with my service writer, he eventually blew me off, never returning my calls and giving me the run around when I called. I just decided to go to a brand new Chevy dealership in town and they immediately said road force balance. It feels a lot better, though not 100%. Its probably only been 3 weeks and 1000 miles, so time will tell if it comes back. One thing is for sure, massey cadillac lost any service business from me.

Honestly I just think the srx is very picky with tires, any out of round is intensified. My next set will definitely be michelans.

you mention twice in your response about tires being the culprit...either out of round or something that requires a warranty...how is that the fault of the SRX...out of round tires are a tire manufacturing issue...I had this issue with my Escalade and it was a Bridgestone tire that once removed from the equation, the issue went away...hopefully the OP gets his issue fixed...

    Re: Persistent steering wheel shimmy

jgodfrey has it right. Tires with minimal runout and an in spec Hunter force balancer usually do the trick if the alignment is in spec and the suspension is up to snuff. Round tires are NOT a given, and tire manufacturer tolerances very. PJ
