    UnhappyMore Drive Train Miseries

My 2008 SRX4 with 3.6 V6 has me on the verge of a mental collapse. In ealy August while 500 miles from home, the front differential packed it in. The best transmission service center near Savanna replaced the differential with a new unit and also replaced the left front half shaft. All was great during the 500 mile trip home. Even the gas mileage increased. Within a week I began feeling and hearing sloppiness in the drive train which became worse day by day. My local service center found that the new half shaft had come out of the clip and was causing the play. The shaft was checked for damage (none) and reinstalled. Now, a few days later, the excessive play has returned, and there is a distrinctive "CLUNK" when I shift from forward to reverse or back the other way. Occasionally it will clunk when downshifting on deceleration. Any ideas? (beside the wrecking ball?)

    Re: More Drive Train Miseries

For starters I would post this in the proper SRX forum, you have ventured into the STS world, although quite similar in ways, still different.

Have you inspected the bushings at both sides of the drive shaft? Common failure on the STS's and CTS's...

Back to the OP, the mechanic may have not replaced the shaft retaining ring and O-ring with new as required.
