Wife totalled the SRX, looking for new. Opinions?

So the SRX did it's job, it hydroplaned on the highway just in front of a construction zone, and it was loaded with 6 people and gear, and everyone walked away without a scratch. The car didn't fare a whole lot better tho. I was happy everyone was okay, but I was sad in that as anyone who has read my threads knows I had a few issues but worked them out and now the SRX was running perfectly.

So....I'm looking for another one. I'd like to get one but I'm not going to just go and get one 'just because'. And time is a factor as we now have only 1 vehicle.

I found an '05 with low miles, and the salesman was nice enough to give me all the records they had on it. They've had it for over a year, and one of the repairs was finding coolant in one of the cylinders, and the repair was to put in stop leak.

So does that mean it's got a short time before the head gasket goes?

Also, the issues the v6s have, when did that get sorted out, or am I out of luck with any 1st gen v6?

I wouldn't get the one with the stop leak for sure...

The issues with the v6 will more than likely still be present unless the motor was completely rebuilt and broken in properly. I would sowns the money on the v8.

^ that, and Id say if you had the V8, stick to the V8.
Comparing my V8 to my V6 and I'll go with V8 anyday.

Run away from that 05 model, it the beginning to no end. Get a SRX with WARRANTY and buy extra warranty

This is a blessing in disguise. Glad everyone is ok, but here is your opportunity to get a quality vehicle and it's NOT an first gen SRX. If you really want one swing for a 2010 or newer. I know I should have.

Actually I don't like the 2nd gen looks. I much prefer the 1st gen, but that's just a matter of personal taste.

So I wrote the salesman about the 2005 with the coolant in the cylinder and told him my concerns. Probably should have it looked into anyway, and he was cool enough to give me all the paperwork to begin with. But he's an older guy, in his 60s I think, that's selling cars more for a hobby than anything. Who knows, perhaps he left that paper out on purpose so I'd see it. He did put it on top of the other papers.

BTW, there isn't any way to tell if a car has AWD by the VIN is there?

Look for front axles that will tell you and also the Vin or RPO codes under the spare tire cover.

I'd sell you my 09 V6 AWD with the sport package. It's loaded with all options. 58k miles. Still under the CPO warranty until 2015 or 100k.

Well I had found an 04 with 31k miles on it, with exactly the same config, v8, AWD etc. Only thing it doesn't have is the DVD player, but i'll probably get those headrest things for anyone in the back seat. She's a beaut and feels brand new.cad_zpsc6da5fa4.jpg

Now, aren't there extended 'warranties' from cadillac, like for the catalytic converters or something?

edit: NM, I decided to register with cadillac owners and have the:
    120000 Miles/10 Year Special Coverage 06081
    200000 Miles/12 Year Special Coverage 10127

    stuff.

31K on a 2004? Thats 3,444 miles a year, either it was a little old lady driving to church or the driver was bedridden

Re: Wife totalled the SRX, looking for new. Opinions?

It was a company car for about a year, with 7k miles on it, and then a little 80 year old had it. Had to get rid of it because she has MS and needed something taller to be easier to get in/out of.

I got lucky finding it. The timing was perfect, it had just been listed and I'm pretty sure it wasn't going to last long.

But, just like my last one, if there are those little grooves on the highway, the ones they put in for ice or whatever, it makes it sway a bit back and forth, like it's windy. Really weird. I'd say "alignment" if the thing didn't track perfectly and nothing shimmies at speed.

Tires? It only has 31000 miles on driven by a 80 year old, it should be as if it came off the showroom, so should be nothing wrong(ahh its a SRX) Keep us posted if you find a solution, so it sways side to side, not back and forth? If its not doing it on regular pavement , I would not be concerned IMO

What does he mean by this: "NM, I decided to register with cadillac owners and have the:
    120000 Miles/10 Year Special Coverage 06081
    200000 Miles/12 Year Special Coverage 10127"

I need a good extended warranty also.
