Could be the end of the line.

    2005 SRX - 135,000 miles

    1. P420, P430 - Two bad cats
    2. Transmission slightly slipping from stop, over 60, shutters.
    3. Needs four shocks
    4. Engine burns 1qt/1000 miles

Brought it to the trans shop, stated there is nothing serviceable in the trans and it just needs to be rebuilt.

So, I figure including labor and tax; 2 cats ($2,500?) (I have a quote request into Rippy), trans ($3,500), shocks ($1,000), so we're looking at $7,000. Then don't know how much life I have left in the motor, burning that much oil will take a toll on the new cats.

I'm assuming it's not worth a dime so I'm considering junking it unfortunately. It's sad, really took care of it. Rest of the car is in great shape (trunk never leaked!)

    Thoughts ?

I think you're right. Ever consider ramming some obnoxious road hog and then collecting the insurance? Naw, I wouldn't either, but a pleasant thought.

    Where are you located?

I'd be interested before you junk it.

I would agree that it is not worth it for you to fix it but there is another option to junking it considering it is otherwise in good shape. After finding out what a salvage yard will give you for it, advertise it on Craig's list. There are plenty of people out there with the knowledge to do the work themselves and the time and space to make it worthwhile. Think about independent shops that have the knowledge to rebuild the transmission and engine and a space in the corner to work on it when business is slow. You could get more for it than you think.

Repnatl and cfishkin ever consider meeting up with each other and having a SRX on SRX accident? Tell the first responders you were gawking at each other's awesome rigs and just got careless.. LOL

Hahahahaha Na wouldn't do that to someone I know and another srx at that. I prefer the careless drivers on cell phones or playing Sudoku candy crush or reading a book while driving all while they run a red light or change lanes without a blinker. Those are the ones I look for.

cfishkin, I second that buying dibs on your SRX before you junk it. I can give you scrap price at the going rate of $135 a ton i can give you at least $325 for it.

repnatl.. thats pretty considerate of another SRX, considering you think of them as a steaming dung heap.

Also in 2007 came better looking,IMO, 17" wheels, a 6 speed for V8's and an "improved" (doubtful) timing chain for the V6. Also, a different navigation radio made adding a back-up camera a lot easier. 2008 brought remote start. There is probably more to add but that's all I can think of at this time.

They still had issues with the timing chains and oil consumption though even with the revised chains. I've been replacing those on low mileage engines almost as much as the previous chain design.
