I just purchased a 2005 SRX with 90k. It is great shape and drives awesome. I did just need to replace the battery but had a heck of a time finding one that didn't cost $180 looked hard but no luck.
I have a question for you seasoned SRX owners. The center caps on the 17" wheels are painted plastic. The paint is peeling off of them and I thought I would take them off, rough them up a little and repaint. I have visited numerous auto parts stores but none seem to have the correct paint or tell me that I will never match the finish and should just buy new center caps. I think that I could paint them.
My question is does anyone know the correct paint to use for this and has anyone ever done it?
As far as the battery goes, the group 101 battery is expensive but many people are using the group 78 battery that is 1/4" taller with good results. Just make sure it is at least the same cold cranking amp (CCA) rating as the OEM battery.
Here in the bay area there are automotive paint suppliers that can color match the paint if they have a sample to work with and even put it in a spray can for you. Also, you might get lucky and find a cheap set on ebay.
If you paint them... you'll likely need a good "adhesion promotor" for plastic parts. Otherwise it won't last.
I agree and the "adhesion promoter" that is the overwhelming favorite and inexpensive as well is called Primer. The real key to a great paint job is a good prep job to start with. No "adhesion promoter" can make up for that.
