    SRX trailer hitch

Has anyone added a hitch to theirr SRX? Does anyone have a picture of a hitch on their SRX. I am thinking of adding one, but would like to know how hard is it to install and get an idea of what it will look like after.

    Please advise.
    Lloyd

Have my hitch in my files, but don't know how to transfer it here, so I'll post the link to the thread with it:

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

    Bought a DRAWTITE Class III (2 inch) from "etrailer.com" part# 75174 $175.14 plus shipping $34.73.
Ordered the wiring harness from Cadillac that has a plug (part# 12499575 list price $61.25) that sandwiches between the rear tail lighting system harness plug under the rear bumper on the drivers side. I have the factory trailering package that may be why I have the wiring harness split for sandwiching the trailer wiring harness. If if you don't have the split plug you'll need to buy an aftermarket trailer wiring loom.
Install instructions are on the etrailer web site as part of the DRAWTITE model page.
The instructions say to trim the muffler heat shield which I didn't do but instead just bent it by hand to accomodated the hitch and stll protect the spare from muffler heat.
The hardest part for me on the install was cutting off the muffler hanging bracket stud (just 1 of the 3 on each side) even using my air driven cutoff tool. Hard steel studs that must have taken 15 minutes each to cut off.
Used LOCTITE thead lock on the six mounting bolts.
Also, if you have load leveling, the air compressor is on the passenger side tucked up in back behind the rear wheel and uses mounting attachment points that are blocked with the hitch mounting plate so you'll need to improvise that too.

Have the factory hitch. Expensive and does not have the capacity of the 2" but is much less noticeable and less prone to drag at sharp attack angles...

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

AND......the factory hitch requires no modifications (except a little trimming of the bottom lip of the rear facia---very easy). Includes the wiring and tow bar. All I had to do was add a 2" ball.

Now, trying to find a 1 1/4" receiver plug cover. A decent and befitting one. Been a year now, and haven't found one yet!

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

I had the Caddy hitch, and wiring, and transmission cooler installed when I bought the SRX. Very satisfied. I tow a 5 x 8 enclosed trailer, so the Class II hitch is just fine.

Could you tell me how much weight you tow? I am considering getting a towing package installed, but will it pull my 2000 lbs boat?

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

Could you tell me the parts they installed? My dealership here in Wisconsin is clueless. Also, what is the weight of the trailer you tow? I wonder if I get the cadi hitch if I can tow my 2000 lbs. boat and trailer?

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

    HI SRXr's
Just bought my second X upgraded from an 04 to an 08. Installed the 1 1/4 hitch on my 04 no problem.
Now want to do same with my 08 and am encountering difficulties.
1st is wiring for the LED's - all aftermarket trailer companies have are the hardwired kit which I was trying to avoid. The dealer plug is an option but there is only the one part.
I am also limited by having the "performance" fascias.
Has anyone without the tow package and LED's been able to install the wiring to the non split plug?

Re: SRX trailer hitch Installation on a 2016 Model

I dont have a picture right now, but I just installed a GM hitch on my 2016 SRX. Since it did not come with instructions specifically for the hitch install, I made a few installation notes. Here's a copy:

Installation of a GM tow hitch platform, Part Number 22758505, on a 2016 Cadillac SRX

The kit comes with the hitch, rear facia cover, wiring harness and hardware for installation. There are some instructions with the wiring harness and facia cover, but no instructions for the hitch.

The installation hardware for the hitch consists of 6-18mm bolts, 2 smaller bolts (I did not use these as I surmised that they were likely included for another model year), 4-18mm bolts and nuts with integral belleville washers, 4 rectangular, oblong “washers and one wire installation assist tool.

The following are the steps to install and notes:

    1. Remove the existing rear facia by prying up the plastic retainers. Save the plastic retainers, but the existing rear facia will not be reused.
    2. Remove the facia supports by removing the 10mm nuts. Set aside and save for reuse.
    3. Connect the new wiring harness, ensuring that the connection locks and set up and aside until the hitch is installed.
    4. Locate the mounting holes for the hitch. There should be two on the rear bumper with integral nuts and two more on each side with integral nuts for a total of six of this type of mounting. Then note the two beams on each side at the rear of the car have two large holes on each side. Also, note the end of each of the beams is open towards the bumper.
    5. Orient the hitch, rotating as needed to get it in position around the rear muffler system. Note the hitch has two contoured areas that can be used to aid in getting through the muffler space. This step might take some “persuasion”. If you are installing the hitch while the car is on a rack, it may help to jack the muffler up to get the hitch into position. Note, I installed mine on the ground, had to trim the leading edge of the black facia underneath and force the hitch around the muffler. Once through it is fairly easy to move and bolt into position.
    6. Install the six 18mm bolts into the integral nuts, but leave loose until final tightening.
    7. Now the “trick” for installing the remaining four bolts calls for inserting the wire tool into the large holes in the hitch and car frame, “spring” end first and out the back of the frame. For each of the remaining four bolts, install one of the oblong, rectangular washers to the wire tool (make sure that the bolts are fully engaged with the spring as you would not want to lose one in the frame). Carefully guide and retract each bolt/washer back through the hole in the frame and hitch. While holding each of these bolts, hand thread the nuts with integral belleville washers.
    8. Tighten all bolts/nuts. You should have 10 bolts in total for the hitch mounted in position.
    9. Mount the wiring harness with the hardware provided.
    10. Install the new rear facia cover with two twist lock tabs provided.

    Re: SRX trailer hitch

I had a auto/truck accessory shop install a hitch. They used a Curt, 2" receiver Cl 3. "07 SRX rated for 4000#, boat, trailer, fuel, gear weighs 3000#.
Nothing' visible except the receiver opening and the outlet for the lights, doesn't look like they had to trim anything. hitch, light module, labor and wiring was $589.
