Transmission bypass valve removal due to "Hot Trans Idle Engine error"

I have a 2004 srx V8 and I have just change my transmission oil. driving for only around 300km and I notice my transmission fluid life is down to 96%. Before I have read about the 2004 model having a bypass valve for the transmission line that was remove on the 2005 model because it was susceptible to getting stuck in the close possition. I have this car for 3 years already and have change the transmission oil twice already. I also read that the transmission cooler lines can be replace by the newer kind which does not require the bypass valve.

Has anyone experience the process of replacing the transmission cooler lines. Is there a way to check if my transmission fluid is circulation properly or determine if my bypass valve is stuck in the close position.

I don't know maybe I need to replace my transmission coolant first before replacing the transmission cooler lines. I also took a picture of what I think is the bypass valve.

Given the climate where you live, combined with the fact that the bypass valve was discontinued after 2004, I think the best thing to do is to remove the bypass valve and install the later transmission coolant lines.

Can any body provide me with the part number of the new coolant lines (upper and lower) without the bypass valve. The only dealer here seems clueless since I complain this already and they said everything was fine and just change my transmission oil and filter.

You should PM Chris the parts guy at Rippy Cadillac. He posts under the handle of "RippyPartsDept" and is an authorized vendor.

I'm not sure of your ultimate intensions.... do you intend to remove/replace the existing bypass unit? Just waiting on the parts?

Admittedly I'm flying blind as I've never seen the "innards" of the unit but most thermal bypasses I have seen have some type of bimetal element that covers or uncovers an opening to redirect flow. If you have access to a hoist and/or a trusted mechanic perhaps it would be worth while to remove and inspect the bypass valve to determine if it could be modified to eliminate the thermal element.

I already got the new transmission lines without bypass valve. Just waiting for my oil life to reach 0%. Here it cost almost $300 US to change transmission oil and filter.

Assuming the apparent rapid depletion of oil life is related to a high fluid temperature aren't you risking damage to your transmission by waiting?

Doesnt the life % come from miles driven? I mean, you dont think that its testing your fluid each time you start the car.

It works in a similar way to the OLM, it doesn't test the oil, it monitors several parameters (miles, RPM, temp... It should also go straight to zero if the fluid is overheated.
