2006 SRX tail light problem - electrical or are the leds bad?

I have a 2006 SRX. Part of the right tail light has stopped working (of the top ~20 led lights on that rear tail light, the ~5 top right lights aren't lighting)
e.g. with 0's being working leds and -'s being broken ones

Like so. I've tested it with braking, using the turn signal and when locking the car. The lights do not go on in any of those cases. So, a few questions: How do I know if its electrical or just the leds being broken? Is this easy to fix (I can change the oil in a car and that's about it)? If so, how do I do it and where do I get the parts?

    Thanks!

Sounds like a bad internal connection, but units are sealed. However, they can be opened and resealed if you are careful. Getting it off the car requires at least loosening the rear trim panel for access to a bolt. If you want to have a go at it, we'll help. And,

Thanks for the reply and the welcome! So I think you're right on the 'bad internal connection' because now the blinker is hyper-active (in other words, the frequency of the right turn signal is now 2-3x that of the left turn signal... really weird!). I'd like to take a crack at it... I know a good repair shop I can take it to if I screw up.

To remove the rear trim panel, there's a screw in the tie down ring near the rear side door, then the trim covering the front edge (1 screw under a snap out panel), then the rear hatch sill trim, then the D pillar trim (you may get by just by pulling it loose; then thr side trim panel comes off by pulling the bottom edge towards the center of the car. Except for a few screws, all the panels just snap out.

Remove the rear speaker (if equipped) and there are 2 nuts and the electrical connector to remove the tail light.

Now I'll look up a link to opening and re-sealing the light and post later.

    ----------

Google 'opening sealed headlight' and you'll find an oven bake method (You Tube), then-

If all else fails, head to your local scrap yard.

Sorry, I've never got around to trying this. I talked to my dad about it and he suggested just to live with it until the the whole thing goes out.

Re: 2006 SRX tail light problem - electrical or are the leds bad?

Mine was loose connection. If you tap it the whole LED Array will light again for some time but unfortunately, here nobody knows how to open it up and repair so I end up paying almost $700 US for a replacement. I need to change it because my car needs to undergo yearly inspection else I won't be able to drive it. Good luck!
